Spelunky

Full original game is free
I've played this even before it was released on xbox; basically the "lite" or beta version, but still very fun. Think of it more as a demo if you're unsure whether you'd like it. Beating the game and unlocking the miner is a great challenge if you stick with this version.

Yeah. The full version of the demo, IT is an early gamemaker "build" of spelunky. The updated version (this version) has huge amounts of content taht the original doesn't have that make it well worth the price

i much prefer the Look of the classic version - before it was redone for xbox. It looks different now and has new content but the original wuz best.

Bump. People coming to the forum should be notified that there is a free older version of this game available to try out. It would be nice if it was pinned, but I suppose the devs don't particularly want to cannibalize their own sales. I just hate to see people ragging on the game because they don't like it when they could have saved themselves and us the trouble if they just downloaded the free version and tried it out first. Also, it's a classic.

So glad to finally upgrade to the new version after being a fan for so long!

just to say, its not a demo, its a prototype/8-bit classic 90s feel game

I remember playing the everloving ♥♥♥♥ out of the free original, and following with bated breath the development of the HD remake, which I, again, played the everloving ♥♥♥♥ out of on Xbox, before buying it a second time on PC.

Good times. Spelunky is one of the greats.

Edit: Booting up the original for the first time in ages, and I still prefer the chiptunes of this release more than the current HD version's soundtrack. Unfortunately the original game doesn't seem to recognize my controller anymore, for some reason.

Oh yeah, that big picture on the website[spelunkyworld.com] advertising the original was put there because they don't want people to play it. :steamfacepalm:

Same, except I don't own an Xbox, so I was extremely bummed out that I couldn't play it. I lost interest some time after, so the PC version came as a pleasant surprise to me when I saw it on Steam. :spazdreaming:
