[Spoilers] Getting to 5-1 without the Book

So, suppose you weren't planning on doing the whole charade of a paper hunt for the Book of the Dead.
What if you went into the boss fight on 4-4 and you just looked around for the entrance below, not relying on the Book to tell you where it's at.with enough bombs or endurance, it shouldn't be a problem to find the alternate entrance, right?
Would anything stop me from doing that? (Besides never having been past 4-1, of course.)

The door won't open without the book of the dead. You may kill Olmec, but the dool will still be closed. I don't think there's another way to go to hell without it.

Would be a bit on the cheap side if you were able to go to hell with an ankh and scepter.

On my highscore run I found the entrance to the black market without the sensor, I just got lucky and spotted it. That might have spoiled me a bit.

- Absolutely need the Book of the Dead to enter Hell.
- Absolutely need the Hedjet and the Scepter to enter the City of Gold to get the Book of the Dead.
- Absolutely need the Ankh to get the Hedjet.
- Do not necessarily need the Wadjet Eye to enter the Black Market to get the Ankh.

You need the book at the beggining when you enter 4-4. In case of a slave carrying the book, allows you to pick the book while fighting Olmec, the door will stay close.
