Spelunky
How long does it usually take to beat the game?
I just beat Olmec after 21 hours/ 155 attempts... I have a feeling that's way longer than it should have taken me. .-.

Depends on how adept you are at video games in general, and if you've played the freeware version or not.

I'm at the 124 hour mark and I've only beaten the game once. Took me about 90 hours IIRC.

If you did the whole game, from start to finish in 21hours you did it, non stop, and must have been on some kind of super drug.

I did 1000 times before beating Olmec...with shortcuts.

Is it a decently long game if someone was to spend an hour or so each day on it?

The game can be done very quickly. There's even an achievement for beating it under 8 minutes. The average will probably be around 20 something.

Your progress is not saved, though. Your journal and shortcut progress is, but you restart at the beginning every time you play or die due to it having roguelike elements.

Even after you beat it once, most people will go on to beat it multiple times. It's not unheard of for people to beat it 200 times because it's procedurally generated.

Spelunky is the kind of game where you're gonna die 100's of times before beating it, so yes it will be an incredibly long game if you enjoy it and continue to get better. Once you beat the game there is a secret 5th level that adds a much harder and interesting challenge. An hour a day would be plenty of time to progress with your skills. This is the ideal game to play in bursts actually (although playing for long periods is also great).

Um, I'm not talking about time of one run. I'm talking about overall play hours.

You can pretty easily get over 100 hours of play time. Especially if you're into hell runs (the most interesting part of spelunky imo) and going for high scores. Even if you're not really into the high scores, the daily challenge is a great way of keeping you playing. Basically every day, everyone can do a level that is exactly the same and you compete for high scores. You only get one chance and then the next day there is a new randomly generated level.
