They make your stomps much more powerful (you can kill most humanoids with one jump instead of three with them), and in the ice caves they stop you sliding around.

You can jump kill mummies, giant spiders, wasp queen and mammoth with them, they stop you sliding on the ice in ice caves and render humanoids dead in one hit.

"Humanoids" just means things which are roughly human-shaped, like cavemen and yetis.

Specifically they increase your jump damage to 3 health.

Keep in mind that shopkeepers have a lot of health too, it will take a few stomps with the spike shoes to kill them, and since the way they move is so unpredictable sometimes its probably better to use a shotgun/sticky bomb.

Also the spike shoes don't work on Venus Traps, those big red flower mouths in the jungle. A lot of us probably learned that lesson the hard way, I know I did. I think they did work on them in the original free version...

ok thanks guys...one more thing, what do gloves do ? and what do teleporters do other than killing u everytime u use them ?
Ladez Feb 1, 2014 @ 8:14am
Climbing gloves (the green ones) makes you stick to walls in the same way that you can grab ledges. They can be incredibly annoying at first, but once you get used to them they are the best. Pitcher mitts (the brown gloves) will let you throw stuff in a straight line, unaffected by gravity. Note that you can use both items at the same time, just like you can use the spike boots and spring shoes at the same time.

Teleporters are indeed a serious danger if you pick them up unprepared, but they can be really useful when navigating levels, letting you reach some places without using bombs. They are also favored by speedrunners because they let you reach the bottom in the fastest way possible. They can also be used to 'telefrag' most enemies, if you're lucky enough to teleport onto them.

To successfully use the teleporter you need to know exactly how it works down to the numbers. If you plan to use it, read about it on the Spelunky wiki first: http://spelunky.wikia.com/wiki/Teleporter

You can also read about most other things related to Spelunky there, including the other items discussed in this thread :)

Stomping on top of the bald ♥♥♥♥♥ head, without spikes : 8 hits
With spikes : 4 hits.
