Ged gud
Just learn from every run. Play slowly, but not too slow so that the ghost doesn't appear.
Just keep on playing
My advice would be to just ignore everything and don't anger shopkeepers yet. Blow all of your money on bombs if you see them; they're really useful for carving new paths to avoid dangerous areas, and for destroying traps you don't want to deal with. The jungle likes to generate cramped nooks and vertical drops, so take it slow and use your ropes so you don't have to make blind jumps. You can also feed the mantraps (piranha plants) corpses to stun them for awhile if you're scared to whip them, and you can throw a rope to destroy a monkey that's grabbing you.
Don't stick a damsel to the sticky ball or you will be taken to a harder, secret area.
If there's a "dead are restless" level feeling, you can find an "Ash" grave and bomb the block underneath to get a free shotgun, and while you're there, don't pick up the crystal skull, because it spawns the ghost immediately.
Don't go to the bottom of the map if it's a "rushing water" level feeling, and it'll be easy since the lake deletes a whole ground level.
If it's a dark level...that just sucks. Take it even slower, and remember you can throw the torch to light what's up ahead.
One thing to know about the ice caves tho, there's a bottomless pit unlike anywhere else, so if you can't duck down and see blocks below where you're standing, the exit's probably to the left or right of you.
