Hope they add a Ghost-Free/No-Timer mode for Spelunky 2...
Now, before you start yelling incoherently as you foam at the mouth, i meant as a option. For those who don't like hard time limits, because if one mechanic really sucks ♥♥♥, it's time limits. Do you hear anyone, EVER, compliment a time limit mechanic in a game? No, everyone hates them. Some grudgingly tolerate them, but no-one likes them.

The main reasoning is you're 100%, utterly REQUIRED, nay, FORCED to rush ahead and spend every second in the most valuable way. And this leads to mistakes, and pain. LOTS of it.
About 80% of the deaths someone has in spelunky can probably be attributed to rushing and dying because you made a tiny error, which you wouldn't have made if you simply took it slowly (like something as simple as looking carefully ahead/above/below for traps), or to dying to the ghost because you took too much time instead.

This is terrible, horrendous, HEINIOUS game design. And ESPECIALLY in a game like this where every mistake is LETHAL! Ideally, the game should've been designed so it's Risk vs Reward. Oh, you want that shiny Idol? Well be prepared to deal with a whole bunch of spikes, some angry locals chasing you, or some other very unpleasant traps.
Basically ensuring riches are guarded fiercely by foes or traps and that the main reason for dying, like in most roguelikes, is either greed or bad luck. Not because the game's flawed and essentially forced you into making a bad mistake with no time to plan or avoid it.

And if you think this makes the game too easy, well... Just jack up the difficulty of traps! Add way more traps, spelunky is a trapfest as-is, always gotta keep in mind what's where, and look out for chain-reactions, just add more of those, tougher enemies perhaps, and the gameplay will be back at it's usual difficulty, BUT. This time, the deaths will not be because of the game being unfair, but because of greed, or ignorance, or plain ol' stupidity and/or bad luck, or even because of lack of skill (which is fine, atleast you died fairly).

I doubt these words will reach the devs, but i felt like expressing myself on the matter anyway.

Oh, and i also dearly hope (OFFICIAL) Online Multiplayer will be a thing (atleast for PC), because this game has no goals, nothing to unlock or come back for but more pain at the hands of the timer as you vainly try to reach some difficult hellish end-goal. And for what? Just a high-score!?!? Atleast a friend to play with would give me more reason to do so.

Difficulty settings never hurt either (i can already anticipate the incoming blind rabid fanboy rage at the mere mention of difficulty options), it means all the more audiences you can sell the game to (not everyone's looking for a masochistic, ruthless and unfair experience), but i suppose that's a discussion for another topic.
(Oh, and if it seems like i hate the game, on the contrary, i like it! Just wish it didn't have such massive flaws making it so undesirable to play, compared to some of the other roguelikes i have.)
