Is it truely that bad?
I'm a loyal castlevania nut, but i heard very VERY polarizing opinions from my part of the fanbase regarding the lords of shadow games.
i did try playing it once, but hated the forced stealth against the gibberish-speaking riot police. I'm dracula. these things should be crumbled to dust, even in my weakened state.

There was an interview with a former employee who said that they were made to rush this game. If you don't expect a LOS1 you will be fine with that. Seems like a game that got cut its budget in half but thou you see its potential.

The """"""interview""""", probably written by frustrated people.

Is it truly that bad? No, I can't say it is. LOS 1 and 2 are my 2 favorites games ever, the Arkham games just behind. The gameplay is so fun, especially when you master it.

The stealth is like 2% of the game.

What people did not understand is that a game where the main hero is invincible is just stupid.

If you want a "justification" of why he is so weak : two words : the Castle.
Throughout the game, we only see Dracula without the full possession of his power because he just created an entire dimension where everything that he loved or that marked him in his prior life comes to life.
From what you said you already know a lot about the game so I can explain something.
Maybe you figured it out but the story telling make you understand that Dracula is more powerful in his Castle, it's like when you take a fresh breath of pure air (sorry for the comparison, I'm tired x)).
When the story takes place, aka 2000+ years, nothing remains of the Castle (except the main structures and some foundations) and its inhabitants, except him. He is just the a pale reflection of what he was. And the Castle is a pale reflection of what it was.
The Castle is supposedly "conquered" by the forces of good and is the symbol of the triumph of men on the evil. The Castle is like a dream, a dream where you really like to be but sometimes nightmares find you and then all you want is escape.

Obviously, if you don't read the very interesting lore that the game gives you...

Most just don't understand that at first so why would you expect more from them.

It is funny because everytime someone talk negatively about this game, they often use "if" "it seems", "maybe". Those are people who know nothing but like to spread their negativity on a game that doesn't deserve any hate.

When we talk about characters, artistic direction, music, these games are waaaaaaaayyyyyyy ahead of anything that was made during those 5 years (and before haha).

Look very very closely to the artistic direction, hear very carefully the voices, look with attention at the faces and how they look more human and more beautiful than anything made in 2019, listen with care the absolutely amazing music that was composed for these games.
Do all of that, because you will never see that again in another game.
I am not even joking. Since 2014 I never experienced the same feelings, the same beauty in the artistic direction, in the musics, in any other game.
The LOS games are unique. Don't ruin it for yourself just because nobody understood. Try to understand, if you do not, ignore it, if you do understand, appreciate it as it should be appreciated.

The only thing I can't fight for is the end. If you don't know about it I won't tell you but this is the only thing that I can agree it is kind of badly done.

The one thing I would say to those saying it isn't the true Dracula, he should not be so weak or else :
You do not know Gabriel Belmont. You do not know his story. You did not like the first game.
You do not know his journey into darkness. You do not know who truly is Dracula.

The End.

Technical details do not make a great game. LoS2 is a God of War/Metal Gear Solid/Devil May Cry rip-off.

The original Devil May Cry is what Castlevania was supposed to have grown up to be. Instead, they pandered to the 2D sheeple "becuz it's always been 2D and SoTN!!!11!!". That idiotic move cost them, and a great series was effectively destroyed. LoS was not originally made as a Castlevania title. Konami threw money at it because it was almost done and could be easily altered into a finished Castlevania title, even though it was a straight rip of God of War and Devil May Cry.

For LoS2, they had to steal from someone else, so they put in chicken-legged MECHS straight out of Metal Gear Solid.

For my part, I went in without playing LOS1. I'd like to some point, but I am in no rush. Money and all. However, I did enjoy my time with this game, and I did quite like it as time went on.

I finished both, and I like the second one more, it's so aesthetically beautiful for me, and Dracula is such a badass, the way he looks and what you can do. And there's really a room to experiment with abilities, with world exploring.
Also, what the duck, stealth parts appear only like 3 times? And they take like 5-8 minutes to finish, why is it such a big deal? Some games are making you grind for 5 hours in order to progress, and nobody's saying a word.

It's been some time since I've last played it, but I remember enjoying the game overall, despite the crappy stealth sections and overly melodramatic story. The combat is great, with higher difficulties practically forcing you to use your full moveset instead of relying on one or two combos. The world is interesting, though the modern-day stuff isn't as good as the castle. The story is stupid, but occasionally goes into so-bad-it's-good territory (see Dracula riding an exploding propane tank across rooftops) and hearing Patrick Stewart say just about anything is still a good time. The boss fights are pretty sweet, too, as is the overall presentation.

And even if you wind up not liking the game, the soundtrack is worth buying separately.

It was polarizing because LOS1 was a classicvania monster bashing march with the classic world map level select screen in between levels AND LOS2 was a metroidvania rat maze with teleport spots you had to find. Considering the sales numbers in hindsight, more people liked the LOS1 version of castlevania better. As a metroidvania rat maze, LOS2 wasn't that bad, it just shouldn't have followed LOS1. It should have been it's own offshoot and pandered to its specific audience alone. If they did that, then there wouldn't have been any polarization to speak of.

IMO they should have made a deeper LOS1.5 Mirrors of Fate game (which was a great game btw) with double the amount of game hours. And then made LOS2 in the same classicvania style of LOS1. They would have done much better I feel.
