Thief
Crossfire performance problem.
Yo.
So, ah... I started up Thief and set up all the options to my liking, then ran the benchmark test while keeping an eye on OpenHardwareMonitor on my second screen.

I noticed both video cards (Crossfire HD7950) were sitting on 99%, at only 40fps (avg).
I read in some benchmarks of people getting around 100fps with an R9 290X... though I'm sure two HD7950 should be outperforming a 290X, considering the R9 series are just rebranded 7xxx series chips.

Now, here's the strange part.
I do some looking around and notice the AMD have a new beta driver out, which includes a Crossfire profile for Thief, as well as 'single card improvements'.

"Ooh", I said, "This might fix this problem!".

Turns out I was wrong.
It made it worse.

Now, with the beta driver installed, Thief is only using a single card at 74% load, no activity on the second, at around 35fps average during the benchmark test.

I tried to give in and play anyway, but upon gaining control of Garret('s impostor), I noticed, even at a solid 40fps in the starting room, moving the mouse around is very... "stuttery", for lack of a superior word.

I've done the usual 'general' test things, like restarting my PC, driver wipe and reinstall, disabling/re-enabling Crossfire, and so on.

Nothing so far has assisted me in this issue.

Are any other players having Crossfire issues with Thief?

For interest, or potential (but unlikely) assistance, my other important PC hardware is listed below:

i5 3570K @ Stock (doesn't go over 50% usage in game).
8gb DDR3 @ 1600MHz.

I suppose there's no point in listing much else, you already know what cards I'm using.

Thanks,
Look forward to what people have to say.

Well, turns out, I launched with Crossfire disabled and now I'm getting 59fps with zero stutter.

Nice work AMD... failures.
Hey guys, here's a beta driver with a Crossfire profile specifically for Thief!

We won't tell you that it doesn't work!
Look at the shiny new driver!
Same here game runs like a freaking slide show with crossfire [3gpu's] enabled [and ofcourse its not so much playable with a single gpu with everything cranked up to max]

I'm on a 9590 fx @ 5.2ghrz with 24gb ram 1600mhz and hd 7990 + 7970 ghz edition [all running at 1250 core 1575 memory in Trifire] i even tried with default clock settings wich made it all so much worse.

Geuss ill leave this game as is for now and see what happens next month when they feel like updating the game to the specs on the box it came in, not gonne make a playthrough on low settings so i dont feel like doing it when they fix it and i can use max settings XD

This is what AMD is all about.
Now now i used Nvidea untill a few years ago and AMD is just fine and dandy price/performance wise[its more of a do it yourself kinda product], problem currently being that everything is being rushed from all sides, making users unable to counter the problem in many cases. specially with allot of folk havin trouble with sertain programs created by amd on windows 8/8.1 pc's
I'm thinking they werent ready for all this commitement yet, consoles / games being amd optimized / mantle etc etc

there's NO Thief crossfire profile into Catalyst 14.2 ! Why? Who knows... :-D ask AMD.
First run the benchmark with single GPU...then
try to add a CCC profile for Thief and for Crossfire choose a profile something like Dishonored.exe... then let me know here how it works..rerun the benchmark ("it should work") let me know...

Same Problem here

There is no crossfire Profile for Thief in the CCC 14.2 1.3 beta

But in the release notes from AMD and SquareEnix is spoken from the Crossfire support for thief.

Crossfire scale only one GPU
....damed i wait so long for this game

regards
update: AMD says that the profile is "hard-coded" into the drivers... but maybe the game must be patched before running... try yourself if it's true...
Hard coded ...i am not a programer

crossfire dont work its a shame
Thief is a AMD envolved game they make big pr for mantle in thief.
No mantle, no crossfire no eyefinity cause with one card...........

I am realy frustrated
This is why I prefer one card lol.
Hard coded as in if crossfire is on the game doesnt glitch or crash like most non crossfire games when you try to force them i geuss.

PS : 1 card is nice and dandy but im used to full hd eyefinity not sure if theres a card that can run thief max settings that way.

keeping in mind, the 14.x beta drivers are VERY W.I.P., with the addition of the mantle API comes a lot of reworking for openGL and driect3D, along with crossfire and eyefinity, faults are EXPECTED.

@OP, a 290X has about the same shader threads as two 7950s and being a single card will scale better, so you *should* get about the same performance in the same scenarios, "100fps" in this case could be with mantle (14.x), but as I said, said drivers mess with crossfire very badly, so what you should do now to get something usable is;
> uninstall 14.x
> flush you C drive for ATI/AMD folders
> run a registry clean
> make sure you reboot your computer once or twice throughout to flush cache, it should ask for a reboot at least once anyway
> get 13.12 or even 13.6 drivers and install them

after that you should have everything working again, Theif may or may not work correctly in crossfire yet still as its only a newly released game and needs driver optimization.

It's cool, I'm just playing on a single card for now.
Stutters a smidge when going through the city streets, etc... but standard missions are 50-60fps.

That'll do until AMD sort themselves out.

Same problem for me on the 14.2BETA drivers. The benchmark only uses around 50%-60% of my 7990. I think this benchmark was designed to create a CPU bottleneck and showcase how well Mantle removes that botleneck. Just me guessing.
*all* benchmarks have a CPU bottleneck, its the reason why mantle was created and why my 290X is capped in 3dmark. (FX-8150)
Yeah... just a bit craptacular that they couldn't even get the basics of Crossfire working.
It's been around for ages, and evolved so much, you'd think they'd be super quick at it by now... especially for such a high profile title.
