The OP didn't realize that the XP system is no longer in the game.
I believe the last thief game came out in 2004. Since 2004 no new Thief games have been released and the gaming industry changed so there will be more comparisons with recent games than older games.
As you said 'There will be a lot more ways of doing things'. In the original thief games there was pretty much one way you could do things. So this game MAY have been influenced alot by Dishonored.
Did you research before you formed your opinion on the XP system?
