Thief
Why i think the old thiefs arent actually that great
so after a long time hearing people say "the old thiefs are so much better." i decided to buy thief 2 and thief deadly shadows, are they really all that better so far ive only completed the first mission of metal age and i gotta say the stealth system is... i cant think of an adjective right now but when your beside a huge post thing and a guard is staring right at you from 5 feet away, the guard should see you. also so many people had said that the thief 4 levels are extremly linear so are the levels in thief 2 ( i look at some other levels on youtube btw because i couldnt stand that the resolution was so small). lastly difficulty another thing everyone says is that thief 4 is super easy so are the others again 5 feet away standing up right behind guards never detected.

Me? Not at all, just stating a fact.

the old ones are good also but did not age well at all.
They aged just fine, thanks in no small part to the fact that game design has been moving steadily backwards since the time of their release.
Everything that was truly impressive about original Thief games remains impressive to this day.
But we gots da eye candy, neck arrow shots, and the sexy woman lol
20 years from now, look at this Thief and ask again if that one aged well.
Modern games seem to age extremely quickly, there are a few that I thought looked great when they came out but when I see them now they come across as pretty bland *ehm Crysis 1* - the classics in my opinion will never age. I still find Doom, Heretic, Hexen, Duke 3D, Blood far more aesthetically pleasing than any brown/gray/dark/gloomy monotony that completely flooded the market for the last decade or so and not only that, are objectively vastly superior in terms of design, gameplay, art direction and so on.

In Teef, the whole game felt the same through-out with the monotonous mood being controlled by an extremely weak plot. The theme was drab, boring and lacked variety where as every level in the original games had their own theme, own unique atmosphere and fascinating lore. You felt a part of each level, each of them was an insane trip and was like it's own puzzle. I didn't get a scratch of satisfaction out of any level or moment in Teef and the highest emotion it managed to evoke from me was mediocrity. Hell, even Thief 3 managed to stun me at times and I thought that was mediocre-decent for the most part.

The awful AI and numerous bugs Teef possesses aside it's still a shocking game, especially to those who loved the originals and knew what made them great.

Look at it now, Teef 2014 already aged badly.

Facts cannot be disputed. For example the sun rises in the east and sets in the west in the northern hemisphere.
You deserve a cookie and a pat on the head.
It's not a fact that he deserves a cookie and a pat, because that can be disputed.
Well it can't be disputed that Thief 1,2 still have some of the most complex and detailed layouts in gaming history nor can it be that they deliver one of the most intense atmospheres you'll ever find in a game.

And I could say that Medieval 2 has the most immersive atmosphere of all Total War titles... doesn't mean anything, doesn't mean its fact if I say it. Not everyone would agree.

We have a habit of convincing ourselves that those who disagree with our beliefs are stupid.
Still can't be disputed.

Yea and I could say Godfather 1 is soo much better than Godfather 2.

Doesn't mean anything.
So wait, Thief 1 and 2 having complex, non-linear layouts is disputeable? If you don't find the atmosphere (which is widely regarded as one of the best in the industry and one of the games main merits) effective then your taste is just awful. Another fact for ya.

As I pointed out before, if somebody disagrees with our opinion then they are simply wrong.

I could say Godfathers atmosphere and storyline in the first one was much more superior to the second one. There'll be somebody out there who disagrees. End of. Accept it.
