Could someone explain why there are so many loading screens/transitions in this game
is really love this game
the main character being its strong point
very atmospheric and the first person animations and mechanics are really satisfying

one major weak point is the game has a loading screen around each corner
each window you open is a 10-15 second loading screen

is this some kind of engine limitation
or something that could be avoided but would result in a higher recommended requirements to run

all those loading screens are what games used to be like 10 years ago with a loading screen after each small room its a bit odd seeing them now

there are plenty of other games with grater amount of detail that manage to be open world and avoid loading screens

if the experience in thief would be free of all the loading screen it would be so much better

couldn't the game just preload more parts in the map i'm sure modern machines could handle it

the answer will be futile - you just have to cope with the game design - i can not t give you an accurate answer to why there are so many loading screens (( engine limitations / level design )- they are smartly added ( to not make the players feel stressed ) because they make the link between the quarters of the city ! - i agree with "the experience in thief would be free of all the loading screen it would be so much better " !

Game was originally designed for PS3 and Xbox 360 and only later repurposed for next gen... That is why there are so many loading zones, old consoles just weren't able to handle anything bigger with level of visuals developers aimed for, at least without frame rate slowing to a crawl and existing loading screens being even longer.

Next Thief game won't be limited by ancient hardware, so I am sure well se large intricate levels free of loading zones.

that sounds really promising!
something like a dying light sized map with free roam and the unique thief mechanics with zero loading

at least the transitions are really smartly added like you said ill give you that
pushing beams out of the way and using that tool to pry windows open

problem is you could run in 3 different loading screens within a single minute while going from point A to B on the map

Have you played Thief Gold and Thief 2? If you haven't, you really should. They have exactly what you want-----open sandbox level with very few point-of-no-returns.
