Because based on stealth, level design and narrative it loses on all 3. Best you have is graphic fidelity. In terms of variety and atmosphere the first 2 have it beat.
How is smaller but similar levels better in the reboot? Outside of thieves guild which most agree isn’t great, haunted cathedral isn’t that hard to navigate and adds more to the world.
Sound was a thing in the originals as well. And being "tight and focused" doesn't even make sense in this context; the 2014 game has more hand holding and less freedom if that's what you're getting at. It's a game made for children that can't think for themselves.
Bruh OG Thief is not even a hard game.
