Yes. Alas, now I am already aware of the dangers, so definitely the next one won't be as bad. The Bioshock one was terrible though...at 2 am in a game which had no elements of horror prior to that (ok there was the asylum bit with the wheelchair moving forward, but nothing else).
Everyone usually raves about the showers being creepy, but it just seemed like a plumbing problem to me. I thought the dining hall was done well though. I liked that room.
My overall take on the chapter though, is that there just isn't enough actual danger to warrant being afraid as you traverse it.
It all comes down to WHAT scares you most: jump scares or harmful entities. The Shalebridge Cradle in the previous Thief (Deadly Shadows) was terrible in that you were in the dark and the game used flickering lights and noise to ensure you KNEW that something was nearing you, and they could all harm you. Moira on the other hand makes bloody sure you see every last scare, but it's mostly scare rather than actual harm. For a game painted in night darkness, it's rather amusing how Moira is so well lit to ensure you miss nothing! Personally, I found Moira worse than the Cradle by a long way. In the Cradle, you knew a fire arrow would take care of anything, whereas in Moira you can't do a thing about most of the scares.
I found Moira both terrifying and difficult - moreso than the Cradle or the Abysmal Gale ship. It took me 4 days just to build up confidence to move from lobby to ward, and I only went where I absolutely HAD to go (I skipped the dining hall, lower levels and prison cells altogether). I watched countless youtube vids and looked up as many spoilers as I could, and finally got through it.
Later, I MADE myself replay it for a friend who was even more terrified. I wrote down every scare, where it was, what it could do if anything. I visited every corner and saw every entity. At the end, I curiously found I wasn't all that terrified. In fact, I wanted to play it again! It has since (after 4 replays through that chapter) become my favourite part of the game, and has additionally enabled me to play other games with jump scares that stopped me playing (like Bioshock's minor jump scares at the beginning of the game).
This is really unacceptable.
But in the Cradle, you certainly don't have enough fire arrows to take care of every threat, while in Moira, until you turn on the power, it's mostly just harmless scares.
I guess knowing that there isn't really anything that can or will hurt me until I turn on the power really takes a lot of the fear (what little there was) away.
The only time I felt anything close to fear was my first run of the Asylum after I got to the prison, because I hadn't bothered to upgrade the bow damage much (I'm playing a thief, not a murderer), and didn't have enough fire or blast arrow to deal with all of the freaks.
Plus, the Cradle is alive and won't let you just walk out, the Asylum has a section that teleports you right to the front door.
The Shalebridge Cradle still creeps me out, while Moira Asylum gets a "meh" response.
I wish there was an option to skip this level.
