Night Before Ch. 4: "There! Don't you see her?"
This is driving me nuts. Most civilian banter is loot hints, but this one has me stumped. After "Dirty Secrets" but before "A Friend in Need," if you go to Baron's way South, in front of Crowley Stonecutters, there is a man and woman civilian that patrol up and down the street. When the woman gets to the point in her patrol furthest from the end with the guards, she will say to the man, "There! Don't you see her?" and proceed to describe what can only be the ghost of a crying girl. The man will say she doesn't exist, and they argue a bit, and then the whole thing repeats every time they reach that end of the street.

Can anyone tell me what the hell is up with that? It has to lead to SOMETHING in-game, but I've never been able to find this crying ghost or find any loot related to it. Has anyone else encountered this? Has anyone figured out what this was a hook to?

My guess is that it pertains to this "Red Jenny" you often hear mentioned.

I expected that at some point, considdering all the dialogue you hear about her, "Red Jenny" would become a significant part of the plot. But sadly that isn't the case.

I can only guess/hope that all the "Red Jenny" references are to wet our appetites for a future DLC pack which actually features her.

Sorry to "necro" / Revive this thread, but i'm playing through the game again. And google isn't very helpful or my search "keywords" are wrong.

Was this ever revealed as to why this is about?

As for what i found out:
If you stand nealy exactly where the woman says this, you can see straight into a cellar.
Down there you get the Sculptor's Dairy.
And if you have played the previous games, you know that Cragsleft is a prison.
And cursed at that.
What more, is that behind the plaque to pull from the wall is a button the deactivates some traps.
And beyond those is what appears to be a grave stone.
My guess is, it's cut or forgotten content, and you are meant to bring something to this spot and then get a small cash reward for your troubles.
But only guessing.
IT's the only POI (Point of interest) at the spot she starts and reacts to.

Maybe there is a better reason that has already been found out, but as i said before, google was no more help then to send me to this thread.

You're more than likely right. THI4F changed lead directors and developers several times, things kept getting added/removed/changed.

Yeah, like the obelisk sidequest; It just ends abruptly with no payoff. I think Copper has a great theory about how it would have played out, and I agree that it was probably just banter from cut content.

Maybe it was planned for DLC or something. Damn, I am disappointed this game flopped. I love the Thief series and I really wanted more content for the game.

Red Jenny would be an epic boss to fight like the Trickster from Thief 1. Considering how she's feared, I would assume she has little magic and more of brutal appearance and strength despite looking like a severely-starved gal with blood splashed onto her?

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
