Even the asylum is really not that scary , you are just not used to this in games.

the real thief experience is having a sweaty butt crack in fear of getting caught. Either that or you are a sociopath.

Previous Thief games had zombies and spiders in it.

Don't forget the puppets and the staff members from the Shalebridge Cradle!

All the Thief games have had an element of fear to them. All of them.

Salu2
Sounds like this taffer needs to grow some hammers.

I for one hate horror games/movies. Thief is mostly a stealth game, so I can understand why Chapter 5 is a horrible surprise for someone who doesn't like horror stuff.

I, for one, can't play the game anymore. Jumpscares send me into panic/anxiety attacks, and that's not what I thought I'd get when I bought a stealth-based game. Creepiness and scariness? That's fine, and that's apparently what was praised in previous Stealth titles. Jump scares? I'll just nope away now, thank you.

theres nothing scary in this game really, its just make belive, Now VTMB the haunted house that was sending shivers up my spine lol. this is tame.

VTMB is make-believe too. Just because it's not real doesn't mean that it isn't startling. That's kind of the whole point. I played through the Ocean House, and while there were one or two jump scares, a lot of that was in the atmosphere and story.

tension != fear. and if you're getting that tense from a video game you must have a really active imagination.

Properly crafted horror on the other hand... is basically designed in every way to draw you in (though even then the more active your imagination and the better your suspension of disbelief the more [or less] it will affect you).

Though you do get somewhat desensitised if you play some of the creepiest/scariest horror games then go back to "lesser" ones, FEAR was my first horror game and it scared the pants off me at the time, then I played Amnesia and now it's more creepy than terrifying.

Fatal frame games were good at the start but once you got used to combat it moved to be creepy and disturbing rather than terrifying, because you could fight almost everything and the stuff you couldn't was pretty easy to run from.

Chapter 5 is quite creepy and scary, and I absolutely hate horror, so I quit pretty much as soon as I hit that part. Thankfully, I did go back and finish it later on, after reading a bit about what scares there were. Turns out if you just go where you need to go, it's not too bad. It's just a creepy atmosphere mostly. Just the monsters after you activate the generator are a bit freaky, but it's not so bad. You can kill the ones with sight easily, and the blind weird ticking monsters you can sneak past quietly, or kill if you've got the blast arrows for it since they're fairly tough. Other than that one chapter, it's fairly normal for the most part.

In addition, they can be burned to death by setting the oil on the floor alight when they're standing in it, or simply by having them stand in brightly lit areas for too long. I killed half of them by tapping on walls with my favourite distraction tool (the blackjack) and swooping away before they came to investigate, and the other half with oil patches. I even managed to catch three of them in a single pool of oil at one point.
