The Forsaken Chapter...SUCH HORROR!
From the start of the chapter, I had a bad feeling about it all: I mean it's an asylum where people sometimes go but no one ever comes back and the reason we go there in the first place! Just cuz our friend the friendly ghost told us to go there to find 'the truth', we do? Anyway, so I slowly walked into the front garden after climbing over the gate and there i found a litle money and stuff. Suddenly, the front doors creaked so loud I almost jumped. After realising that I had to go in, I did. Once inside, the doors slammed behind me and I thought I was trapped, but then a little light showed from the keyhole and I looked... THAT FREAKING JUMPSCARE! I could not move for 5 minutes! Someone help me out! Are there more? And where?!

Oh come on, Tolgamaster, just put some happy music on and play the chapter :D I hate scary games and never even finished any Tomb Raider game cause I'd get too scared, yet I played through Moria in the middle of the night. Though at the end I didn't care about the loot and just sneaked right to the end, oh God never again.

You are right... I..I should just put AC/DC and run through that ♥♥♥♥! You are right!
Nicze 8. März 2014 um 8:32

Hehe, if the first keyhole was so shocking for you, just wait until you find more serious stuff.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN?!

THE BALL WAS ♥♥♥♥♥♥ UP TOO.

WHAT BALL AND WHERE?! EXPLAIN!
In the room with the mannequins, when you pick up the note hanging in the kitchen a ball will appear bouncing behind you....
Lucifer 8. März 2014 um 11:35
Not tied to the note, I don't think... if you enter that room initially from the showers, you'll see the white-robed Erin ghost on the stage and she'll move off to the left. A few moments later I believe the basketball drops down the elevator shaft and bounces to the table nearby.

I'm wondering if it's the same ball you bump when approaching the female ward that drops down the open shaft with the collectible and vanishes.

Don't forget that thing that grabs you from behind and throws you to the ground (I really thought something has killed me *-*) and as soon as you get up again and turn around there is nothing behind you..and that thing that jumps into the elevator in the mens ward as soon as you turn the light on.

Everyone of you that's finding the Asylum to be too scary should never play Thief: Deadly Shadows.

The Shalebridge Cradle will likely give you a heart attack.

Buncha taffers. ;) :Coin_Thief:

What they said. This level properly freaked me out, but it doesn't hold a candle to The Cradle. Brrr...

SPOILERS

I love the wheelchair one. there is also a lady that moves around the corner at the far end of one of the hallways. Also, as i state in my Guide, there is a collecible painting that appears on an empty frame if you look at the frame through a hole in the wall.

oh another big jump scare is if you go into the alcove at the end of the hallway with that same painting, there is a book shelf that slams to the ground after you walk past it. That one scared me :p

OOH another great one. The room with the pyromaniac girl :) you watch her playing with fire when you look through the keyhole, then open the door to see the burnt area on the ground. Looking into the room you see a crawlspace leading into the blocked-off room next door, so you start to head in. As soon as you do, you are pulled backwards out of the room and the door slams shut!! I peed a little after that one :p

EDIT: holy crap the mannequins!! forgot about those. and i KNEW something would happen with them. if you go on the stage past the mannequins, something happens -- a noise i think -- and you turn to find the mannequins hovering over you!! i peed a lot after that one! =P
I just want to thank you for your description. I don't normally ever read spoilers but, for this chapter, I want to know exactly what things are where so I can ready myself for the "this is the bit where THIS bad thing happens - 3 - 2 - 1 - now! Okay - not so bad, now the next part..." These events you've mentioned are really helpful! I was going to start this part today and I've been advised to creep everywhere, but I've put it off by carrying out many Basso jobs instead! :P

There's also the exploding door that throws you all the way down the hallway as soon as you pick the lock. And Erin seeing the nurses flicker into goblins and back. And that huge goblin thing in the elevator shaft that jumped down out of nowhere right in front of me and filled the whole 24" screen. That was the worst for me.
I've now started this chapter but can only play 10-15 mins at a time before it all gets TOO tense. If there any fellow wusses like me who would rather see some of what they'll face in advance of playing, then I found this vid on youtube (SPOILERS - only watch if you want to know about some of the scares in advance): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=licQ21CcW6o

Khenderson99 - I saw what you refer to in the above-mentioned vid and I can see why they're the worst bits. I was told Shalebridge Cradle (Thief 3) was worse but I dunno.... This looks bad enough! In Thief 3 (Deadly Shadows) the Shalebridge Cradle worked on building up this same terrible suspense - and it did it well: an abandoned, ghostly orphanage (similar to the asylum) but in complete darkness except a tiny few dim lights. Whenever a light would start to flicker, that would indicate that *something* was near that light but you didn't want to creep in the darkness to see what it was. And each light that would start to flicker would be another light nearer to you! That was terrifying. But in reality not much happened provided you kept still or crept - the terror was in the suspense. I put that in spoilers in case anyone here is planning on playing that game and likes being scared to death!

♥♥♥♥ everything about this chapter. Before, I was a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ batman or at least a cool Garret dude with menacing eyeliner, but here I'm a little Ms. McPoopypants, running away from balls, wheelchairs and mannequins. "So, you want to peek through this peephole? WELL ♥♥♥♥ YOU, prepare to spend next five minutes crying in the darkest corner you can find."
Sorry about this runt, I just can't for the love of all good and awesome play this sort of games. Thief was pretty much over for me when I get to this chapter. So sad.

At least you got THAT far. I was near hysteria just outside when the barred door was suddenly open but I didn't see it open. For some reason, the door slamming shut behind me was not as scary as - well, just turning to see that the door is suddenly open... I'm scared at THAT bit, so I'm just doomed.
There is only one enemy in the entire level until you get to the basement and then you are basically back to normal Garrett sneaking with slihgtly different enemies that make weird noises.

I'm surprised none of you saw the Night Watchmen once you get the key from the men's ward that thing made me ♥♥♥♥ my pants.
modus0 11. März 2014 um 14:37
My reaction to the Night Watchman went like this:

*Hears tromping noise* "What... is that?"
*Goes creeping around looking for source of noise, eventually finds the shimmer in the air* "Oh, I should probably stay away from that."
*Shimmer growls menacingly* "Yeah, don't want it to kill me."
*Goes back to exploring and looting, keeping an ear out so I don't bump into it.
