So the keepers have been removed from the game?
Couple hours in and no mention of them, pretty bummed out by it too.

Yeah, in Chapter 3 you see some old keeper areas and I was surprised Garrett didn't comment on them, I recognized their lock symbol on the stained glass.

To be fair, the Keepers were pretty much finished by the end of Thief 3. If this is a sequel, we wouldn't expect to see them around.

Well they said its a reboot and not a sequel... so I was wondering why they left such an impotant part of the history out of the game. And regardless, I don't remember the keepers being totally wiped out in T3. In fact, "It's no easy thing to see a Keeper, especially one who does not wish to be seen". was the very last thing Garret says at the end of T3.
As I said in another thread, it's a hybrid. It was originally worked on as a sequel, until they changed their minds. On a mission from Basso I saw Cragscleft mentioned, which goes along with the newspaper outlawing the old gods and tearing down churches.

And now that I think off it the little girl he said that to at the end of T3... I wonder if she turns out to be Erin.

I was pretty sure the Keeper organization was dying at the end of Deadly Shadows (and that line of Garrett's was an homage to the opening sequence of Dark Project where he was the child); however, I was still very disappointed that Garrett didn't seem to recognize the ruins in Chapter 3 (the layout was very familiar to the forbidden section of the library in Deadly Shadows) or even comment about the Keeper symbol... but I'm willing to let this slide somewhat since whatever happens to him at the end of the Prologue might have affected his memory.

EDIT: Yes, that little girl being Erin is what most of us have assumed (especially when says the 'I'm not a kid anymore' line.

Chapter 3 ungefahr die mitte.
It may be just coincidence, but I saw crossed hammers lying on top of a trap door in Ector's shop. The "not a kid anymore" line makes me think it's been about a decade since Deadly Shadows, and Garrett really didn't like working for the Keepers. Likely the reason he didn't mention anything is for the new taffers who don't know anything about the old series.

The whole Primal Awakening ritual shouted to me "Trickster Resurrection".

What better way to hint at lore for new people that to have him see the windows and make a contemptuous remark like "Keepers, should have expect this..."

Considering the book and ring bore the symbol of the Mechanists (a gear) it was be the ultimate trick if it brought the Woodsie Lord back instead...

Plus about a decade, then a year-long coma can make you forget a lot of things.

Shame that so many reviewers are panning the hell out of the game, there won't probably be a thief 5 that might have added the lore that 4 so desperately needed.

Mine is a small gripe, so far I'm highly enjoying the game, and do not think it deserves all the bad press it has been getting.
Yeah, it's odd . . . if you're trying to accelerate progress, why would you awaken something called "the Primal"? Oh, there are mentions of the old lore absolutely everywhere if you stick around long enough. We even have (B)Lenny, the drunk, 'cept he's no longer a guard. That makes sense though: got fired for being drunk on duty too much.

And let's not forget about Ector "Karras" Rothchild.

In chapter 7 i noticed that you are snaking into an old hammerite building. you can see the hammer on the stained glass in the front of the building
I can even swear I've heard the Horn of Quintus.
