Holy taff, the Trickster & Builder do exist!
So I was playing the friend in need mission, and I don't want to spoil it, but a heist is turning out to be more than it's worth, and he actually said "This better be the tricksters gold teeth in a jar for all this trouble" so if the trickster does exist, than the builder must, along with the hammers & pagans!

I don;t want to spoil anything, but theres a couple others spots that seemed to refence or remind us of pagans or builders. It's now to the point where I;m wondering if all the refrences to city being built over cities, and the way technology is different in this, is cause to think this might actually tie into the original series. Like this is just a new thief happening to have the same name, but its all 100 or 200 years (4 or 5 generations or so, enough for everyone to forget) about the original Garret. Could even go on to speculate that this Garrett may be realted to original if exploring that route.
Thus every refernece to the old gods, being a refence to Hammer or Trickster. For those that have reached the cathedral, those ruins were what got me thinking this way.

no wait, I don't think that's possible because there's a gaurd in the lockdown mission that talks about the shelbridge fires (or however you spell that place) it's most likely just a nod to deadly shadows, but if it's not, and this is a new thief wo just happens to be a master thief named Garret, obviously if they remember the fires, then they'd remember the orignal Garret, he was much more famous. And also, I think the gaurd was talking about someone else who remembered the fires, so they couldn't have been long ago, so there's no way it's hundreds of years after the originals. but it was a very good theory.

In the third mission those ruins were clearly keeper ruins.

Here is how it is playing out in my mind. Garret was picked up at a young age to be a keeper. At around 18 he chose a different path. Basso was my friend, but he was taken by the watch and Garret rescued him (in his early 20's). He met a young woman named Victoria and whole world turned upside down.

Garret was contacted by Basso) to help rescue the lady's maid he was in love with. In his late 20's/ early 30's the religious group known as the Hammers had had a split off group named the Mechanists who had then taken over the mother group (for all intents and purposes). The Mechanists caused Garret all sorts of issues which he took care of with finesse and ease.

In his late 20's/ early 30's there was a Keeper issue that ended a part of history that Garret had grown up knowing. After it was all said and done there was a child who had a certain amount of skill that tried to pick his pocket.

And here we are, Thi4f. Basso is Garrets fence and Erin is the protege. The Keepers no longer exist, but the ruins Garret finds are surely old Keeper ruins. I believe that Garret stays young due to some Keeper magic, and some magic purple fruit from an early Trickster experience.

Let me know where this might not be true

chapter 7 you sneak into an old hammer building, you can see the hammer in the staind glass on the front of the building
There is a newspaper that specifically mentions tearing down old churches. In the comic, the Queen of Beggers hints at the city's history. On a Basso mission you find a letter mentioning Cragscleft rock going sour, implying Cragscleft prison was torn down.

I read a document somewhere that mentioned the Maw of Chaos as well.

There's name-dropping everywhere, but the game doesn't substantially deal with the lore in any way. It's disappointing, considering how good the lore is.
Maybe it's so those of us familiar with the lore can have a deeper story while the whippertaffers can have a fun game without concern for backstory? It's not like Deadly Shadows used 3 either.

Focus being powered by poppies, a natural thing, suggests the Trickster heavily.

oh man, how epic would the maw of chaos be with next gen graphics! Too bad they probably won't make a sequil to this new reboot...
