Fullscreen vs. exclusive fullscreen?
I cant tell the difference between the two. I seem to get the same frames on both, but from what ive read fullscreen is windowed borderless. I just dont understand whats the advantage of exclusive fullscreen.

Exclusive fullscreen should run smoother.

Then why is fullscreen as default if exclusice fullscreen runs smoother? and i have noticed slightly higher frames with exclusice fullscreen on.

Well i play on my 3d tv which is said to be 120hz but i have no proof to prove it actually is. It only recognizes it as a 60hz though on my pc. but for you saying that exclusive fullscreen has no benifits is kind of naive considering i get a significant boost in fps compared to fullscreen.

With regular Fullscreen, when I tab out to check the Steam forums or something, the game is still there with the windows UI in the foreground.

When Exclusive Fullscreen, the game minimizes when I tab out.

The Steam overlay works for me if I'm in-game and press Shift-Tab (have to press it twice for it to register though).

I believe Fullscreen is what other games have called 'borderless windowed' mode, which is why when you Alt+Tab, the game will still be open but have another window on top.

And then exclusive fullscreen is known to most people as regular fullscreen.

Chris is correct.

Exclusive Fullscreen ON = Normal Fullscreen
Exclusive Fullscreen OFF = Windowed with no border

Tomb Raider (ported by the same people) had these options as well.

I thought that was the case, but that doesnt explain why the steam overlay doesnt work with exclusive fullscreen.

Yeah, noticed that myself. Looks like Thief isn't fully compatible with the Steam overlay at the moment. I'm sure they'll have at least one patch for this game at some point; some are saying SSAA isn't working correctly, and I've had an issue where Garret's arrows never fire when letting go of the trigger.

Hopefully some of this stuff will get patched, but so far, this is a more solid initial release when compared to other recent PC ports, in my opinion.

I find there are quite a few issues between the game and Steam right now.

For instance,
Steam overlay not working for everyone
Screenshots not working for everyone (should be the same people with no Steam overlay)
Achievements not showing up on Friend's Activity page and can't view achievements in Steam client
Game doesn't show up on peoples' Recent Game Activity (on their profile)

But yea, not sure if it's a problem with Steam or the game. Just hope it gets fixed eventually.

But... like I said. The Steam Overlay *does* work for me with Exclusive Fullscreen on.

Maybe those having/not having problems with Exclusive Fullscreen and the Steam overlay are using MSI/FRAPS and/or SweetFX?

I have been using Fraps while playing

Surprised yours is working. I tried it with FRAPS and it crashed. I do have it running with MSI and Rivatuner though.
