How many of you Taffers actually played the original Trilogy?

In my mind, it's pretty much one of the greatest game series ever made, and definitely created the mold for first person and third person stealth genres. It's nostalgic and nerve wracking at the same time to see another, although I'm disappointed they didn't have Stephen Russell voice act.

I played The Metal Age years ago after my older brother finished playing it. I loved it so much my father went online and found the Dark Project from Amazon (or maybe e-bay) and bought it for me. The Metal Age will always be the best in the series and hold a special place in my heart for as long as it still beats.

I streamed some Thief One: Gold for a couple hours while waiting for unlock. Finally got passed that horn level I dislike so much. I fat fingered f11 and f12 twice in row right before death so I had to start over a few times. Good news is that I know that place like the back of my hand now.

The Dark mod in its early days were rocky and depended on Doom 3 to be installed. Now it is a stand alone game and its free. There is a pretty good size community who add levels to it. Don't expect a story it is just a shell. you have to download separate missions and load them separately. It is great for what it is while EM was making this game.

Expecting to get whiplash from the new Garrett voice. Enjoyed all of the first trilogy immensely. Blame them for my profound love of being a sneaky bastard.

Metal Gear Solid was released before Thief. And years before that Metal Gear 1 & 2 were very well done stealth games as well.

Agreed Thief is influential, but I feel like MGS is the one that had more influence on third person ones at least.

Eh, yeah some people say this. I think with combat and scripted sequences MGS is a much different game edit: from from thief. Very much a "this world is working on its own, you interject how you like" - MGS was cool, but to me thief was fresh and new- nearly no combat, straight cat-n-mouse larceny.

First experience with Thief was borrowing a research copy from a BBS, but the 'crack' to make it work messed up the game play. When you 'died' and went to jail, none of the gaurds could be killed and no items could be picked up.

Enticed me to go pick up a copy of it, ended up replacing my addiction to Quake II Multiplayer.

Have to say it didn't stick up to Ultima Underworld, as the game was much shorter; the story line still kicked ass as at least there was a story compared to Underworld

The Dark Mod is excellent, and growing all the time with great new fan missions. It is totally worthy of the legacy of Thief.
