You only need to see if "travel paid for by compagny" is written on the review or not to know what sort of score it'll have.
Dunno how many games I have that I have actually enjoyed that has met with critics giving the game so low score to the point of being a waste, according to them. I guess that most of these people are nothing but brainwashed robotic sheeps following some randon reviewers command.
Own opinion nowadays, oh no. You're just being bad troll.
Long story short: Reviews means nothing. The very same game can be spectacular for me or you.
Dunno how many times I have ended up being dissapointed with games like GTA, Bioshock, Call of Duty, several Nintendo first party titles etc, yet these very same games do in fact receive mostly high scores from reviewers across the world. While I do enjoy games that has received lower scores of various reasons.
Another game I can mention that dissapointed me: Halo, and I dunno how many praised that game.
No, I am not saying reviewers lie, entirely.
It is $44.99 in the US. He must of had a typo..
Agree with above poster and his/her statement about Halo and other games that get widely praised yet make a less than positive impact on me, while some that I really enjoy would be labeled as 'bombs' by many review sites.
TB? Don't think I'm familiar w/ that site. Also GameSpot owns Giant Bomb.
Thanks for clearing up the 'fail' statement I made. I know I could have worded my OP better, I just wanted to get it out since I was floored by the 6 from Kevin. He used to score everything high but after Tom and Carolyn started throwing out low reviews, Kevin seemed to have jumped on board.
Dont know the other Mags but for me a Gamestar 78% is more a 68%. I have the feeling that they tend to give more positive Reviews then other Mags. Not always but several times it felt that way for me. But its only my opinion. It has nothing to do with Thief.
For example:
They gave Risen 2 a 86%. Metacritic is 69%.
Crysis 3 92%. Metacritic is 76%
Rome 2 85%. Metacritic is 76%
There will also have Reviews where they are lower then the metacritic but still I think the forgive flaws more then others. Often more then they should. But again...only my personal opinion.
---
And one Review doesnt tell anything. I tend to look at several Reviews. Calculate the Average and then look what things of the told flaws I personal dont like. Then I can tell if its worth for me to pay 60€ or not.
Especially if its like Thief. Here I am a bit sceptical. Because I didnt like some of the last Remakes. For example Syndicate. And second...2 days before Release there are still no Reviews from the big sites. If I then hear that one big site has only given a 6/10 then it doesnt help to calm me. Thats to much for me that I pay 60€ for a PreOrder of a game thats maybe good or maybe horrible. Better wait and see how things go. I still can buy it 2 weeks later if I want.
An opinion is matter of truth. It's based on collecting information. If you think you can formulate new opinion just by yourself and it has to be better without listening other people opinions (more educated in reviews, that's why I look at them, they've played the game I have not) then you never get to any truth.
TotalBiscuit I know, just never saw it shortened. In a different thread I noted that I haven't seen alot of reviews lately by TotalBiscuit. Everytime I check his channel, there just seems to be new videos on Hearthstone.
The thing with reviews is you're not supposed to just take the score of some random person and claim it as fact. That's stupid, and generalizing all people who reads reviews as doing that is stupid.
It's just a source of information you take advantage of like any other. You find multiple reviewers with similar tastes and look at what they actually say, and not just the score. Avoid the people who are paid off, or at the very least be aware of it. Then, along with other sources like videos, podcasts, etc. or even articles on the game's developement, it's then perfectly fine to base an opinion on whether it's worth spending money or not.
If you think that's being a sheep, that's your problem. Unless it's your job, I think blindly buying a game just so you can say you 'formed your own opinion' about it is being a sheep and just promotes bad games.
