Touching Erin

I am at the point in the game when Garrett is supposed to creep up behind Erin and touch her shoulder. The trick is that if she hears him coming she teleports to another room. The walkthroughs say that if you "Crouch" and "Move Slowly" you shouldn't have a problem. But I can't get close. She is gone before I get within five feet or so. I wonder if there is something weird about my setup. I am running the PC version on Windows 7. On this system "Crouch" is "C". When I want to move slowly I just tap the "W" key, wait a few seconds, and tap again. That worked fine everywhere else in the game. I note however that the manual associates "Move Slowly" with "Ctrl". But on my system "Ctrl" doesn't do anything. When I tap it Garrett stays just where he is.

So maybe that is the problem. Maybe Erin hears the "W" key and I need to be able to use "Ctrl" instead. But "Ctrl" doesn't work. I am using a Microsoft keyboard so that probably isn't the issue. Anybody have any thoughts?

This is not a big deal because I am so close to the end. For what it is worth I liked the game. but wish the narrative was not so silly. Chapter Eight in particular felt like slapped-together foolishness. But in general it was worth the time.

you have to sneak up on her...that part is a task...but what video game isnt really...swoop up behind her

Using the Ctrl-W key combination to move slowly is part of it but, it's best to find a way to approach her from behind, not head on. That should work for you.

Oooh. Cntl *W*. Not just Ctrl. That works. Still haven't been able to get to Erin without scaring her off, but I'm much further along. Thanks.
