It's like asking how to turn on directx, it's a background part of how the gpu itself functions with the software, not a setting you have an option to play with
My old brain isn't mad lol.
Oh well it doesn't matter it's not like it doesn't work with Rx vega, just wondered why it was gone. It's either a driver issue on these newer cards or Eidos removed it.
Thanks again.
GCN 3/4/5 (380-Fury/RX 480-580/Vega) actually perform worse in Mantle than in DX11 in Thief.
Also, Mantle support was removed from AMD drivers in May 2019.
I knew that AMD abandoned Mantle once Vulkan and DX12 came on the scene, Vulkan development started from Mantle code. I didn't realise that AMD had actually removed support from drivers though.
Thanks for the reply.
Nonsense with zero proofs. My RX480 actually performs better with Mantle, +5fps average in benchmark, +10fps maximum
And anyway, the benchmark is unrepresantative of actual game performance. The game will never be as heavy or CPU intensive.
average fps is around 52 in benchmark and with this fps +5 frames per second is clearly visible.
Anyways, Mantle support in games is horrible in my opinion. BF4, for example, stopped detecting mantle, and fallback to DX11 with any mantle libraries in folder. DX12 and Vulkan are so much better in terms of support.
BUT, if one has an AMD RX 240/250/260/280 card, when doing a fresh Windows install, the default 17.11 drivers will be installed for those cards.
One can then swap the RX 200 series card and place a 300/400 card instead, which is supported by those drivers. Once done, it is possible to revert back the Thief game updates to the 1.4/1.5 and try out Mantle and TrueAudio.
I will get back with some results for Mantle.
