Thief
New Thief game in the works? One that is actually good?
I was just thinking of this game and was hoping someone might know if there is going to be another attempt at this franchise. The latest version i thought was nice when i first played it but i quickly realised it was everything wrong with modern games and had nothing of the values of the original two.

You state there's a new game but, with a question? Weird.

The question mark means it was a question. I was asking if there is a new game coming in the future but didn't want the title to become a whole paragraph.

short answer: no,
Long answer: given the lackluster sales of the reboot and the IP belonging to square of all people I don't see it happening.

Damm shame! I grew up loving those old looking glass studios games but don't like replaying them as they are too old now. One day it will happen or maybe a very similar game will appear from another studio with a different name but intended to be the new Thief.

The best one can possibly hope for is for a studio to pick up the values of the Thief games and run with them -- maybe even taking them a couple steps further since, hey as unique they still are -- those ARE late 1990s/early 2000s games. This studio likely would be an indie one though.

You could tell that Eidos wereN't onboard here as soon as they considered putting Quick Time Events in (later canned due to fan "demand"). Like them or loathe them -- Quick Time Events are the very definition of taking you out of the character, and reminding you that you are just playing a game. Which was everything Looking Glass back then were fighting against, in Thief, Shock, Underworld or otherwise. Their highly simulation/system driven games also were in big parts inspired by tabletop RPG experiences, in which only the dungeon master and the player's imagination are the limit. That's what they tried to recreate in all of their games -- Thief included.

There may be a tiny possibility also that if Shock 3 gets to be a success -- that Otherside Entertainment may be able to do something with Thief as well. Granted, it's tiny.

Thanks for the insight mate. Yes i hope the aftermath of SS 3 inspires a new Thief game. One that has the values of the original.

The latest instalment didn't even allow you to hide in rooms or dark corners, which was the fundamental mechanic of the original game. Most rooms in the mansions were fully lit so the devs could show off all the level design and beautifully made rooms with clutter. It just was a bit of a walking simulator with not enough enemies (no creatures mostly) and boring linear way to get past them.

One of my most fondest memories was as a kid ripping of the demo disc from PC Gamer mag and playing that first mission with the well over and over. I couldn't believe how exciting it was to be able to choose multiple ways of getting past this guard and going through the well into a mysterious mansion lol! Other fond memories were having guards chase you through the entire map and having to rethink my tactics with my limited amount of tools.

Nonsense, the only thing that aged is the visuals, everything else holds up fantastic plus fan made levels that add more playtime.

Never tried the fan made stuff but i did replay everything about 5 years ago. Not sure i could do it again though. A remastered version would be great though, a bit like the System Shock 2 remastered that is coming next year i guess.

Yeah, but who knows how much would be changed I'd say give them a go again.

If you want a bad opinion this certainly is. Deadly shadows did some things different but it was still a thief game compared to this trash.

I wished they would make a remake of thief 1+2. I was trying deadly shadows a while ago but it has a strange bug where the lockpicking is broken, i was unable to play it on win10:(

Deadly Shadows was limited in technical department, but was still agood game and I liked it.
It also concluded the story with a possibility for a sequel. Wish it wasn't this one.
