Weapons After Job Change

I was running around with 4 Freelancers, once I got the job change ability, I changed everyone's job. Now my characters do more dmg bare handed than with any weapon I've found and I've gone as far as City of the Ancients. What gives? Do the weapons I use level up as well? Should I just equip something and stick with it?

im not 100% sure but i think barehanded dmg levels up, but later on some weapons are better than the barehanded dmg, and it also depends on jobclass i think.

Barehanded is only really useful when you use the Monk or Black belt jobs. Weapons or your barehand don't level up ,you'll need to equip better weapons & dualwielding them increases your attack power further but lowers your defence.

Monks do more damage barehanded & Black belt can equip claws later on.

ive messed abit around, with the game after reaching "endgame" with CE, barehand does seem to level up, quite a bit (even outside monk/blackbelt jobs, tho more for hitting-classes and less for casters since they dont atk alot) might be wrong but thats what i have gotten from it. (tho monk and BB are beasts with it)
