The art style throws me off.
I love the older final fantasy titles. Starting from the american versions ff1 - 9. I always enjoyed the dark theme and art style they used and the newer ones just dont appeal to me but this one... is just awful. It is so cartoon like childlike cartoon graphics at that.

I am usually not very picky about graphics but i can barely look at this game. Why did they decide to do the game in this art style?

I never played the origional 3, so coming in on this one for my first time, I don't mind it so much, However looking at it from your standpoint I guess a option to switch to a "retro mode" would be nice.

I want you to look at some screens for the older Final Fantasy games and tell me they look mature and realistic. And I mean pre-PS1 era.

I get what you are saying, I felt that way about FF7, I just couldn't take the cartoony graphics. I enjoyed FF3 on my kindle, maybe because I didn't play the original FF3 I don't compare the new graphics to the old graphics.

I grew up playing the nes and Snes final fantasy's to me at the time they were realistic looking because those were "the next gen systems" but that's not what im talking about. They always used to use a gritty dark art style for their games, with mature themes. I can see them dropping the mature themes to appeal to a larger market but the way they went with the art style now is just not for me.

I love the immersive story lines the old FF games used to provide and i would have probably checked this out.

1, 2, and 3 all had very bare-bones storylines. And it wasn't until 8 that they ditched the cartoony graphics and went with something more realistic.

Then they returned to chibi characters in FF9... Ever since Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Squares seems to enjoy chibi characters in their games. Nintendo wise, at least... I'm not sure what's bad about it though but I suppose the look can't please everyone. It's still better looking than the original FF3...

I see you don't understand the art style in this game quite right.
Actually, art style was realistic in every Final Fantasy, if you look at original Yoshitaka Amano illustrations.
Style in this Remake of FFIII is actually a Final Fantasy Tactics style by Akihiko Yoshida. He still does a realistic style as seen in Final Fantasy XII, XIV and opening for this III.
Cartoony graphics in this game were made because:
1) To make it look like classic Final Fantasy.
2) Due to graphical lomitations of Nintendo DS (But still, human-like enemies are still look realistic, as Final Boss and Jinn, Gutsco etc.)
For me, i do like these graphics, i find them cute... but i still prefer Final Fantasy IV DS graphics, as they are more realistic.

You lost me here, how does this look anything like final fantasy tactics? Unless you are referring to the sequal? Which was horrible. I looked around at the older pics of ff3 and tbh if they translated that i would much rather play that. Not everything needs to be realistic or 3d looking to be good. A mature art style would sell me on a game over cutesy 3d styles.

Aside from the lack of noses? It doesn't lok like Tactics at all.

And what does a "mature" art style look like?
Forsaken Jun 5, 2014 @ 12:40am
Proportionate body parts, neutral colors, unique differences between characters, facial definition.

and what i mean by darker gritty style like a steampunk world a good example would be ff6 (or 3 in america)

or final fantasy 7's midgard
http://bngames.basicallynothing.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/midgar.jpg

or dollet from ff8

Ofc they would keep the anime style because that is unique with their culture, but these bright vibrant "chibi" art styles are just....lame.

You are confusing maturity for realism. They aren't the same thing.

Ok let's compare it this way. Dora the explorer to Family guy. This game is Dora the explorer. I want Family guy.

It is closer to realism but realism is maturity.

Family Guy is neither realistic nor mature.
