"Fast saving" was a feature from the Nintendo DS version of the game, when you needed to turn off the console or something. It won't save your real progress if you die in a battle. This aspect is the same for the iOS/Android versions, as well as for the PC version.
The usual "Save" can be used only in the Worldmap, a thing that makes this game one of the most difficult Final Fantasy to complete. None of the towns or dungeons have save points, and the final dungeon lasts about 3-4 hours, so you want save on the Worldmap and be prepared with items, equipment, level, and job levels before trying to complete any of them.
If you quit the game before the battle ends (even if your party is already dead, you just need to quit before the battle screen transitions to the game over screen), you can continue from the place where the battle started.
It's useful if you wish to cheese your way out of a losing situation.
it allows you to make a temporary save anywhere but you get kicked from your save file and it gets deleted when you load it up.
You can't save inside dungeons on this game through normal means
A little bit embarrassing
