Heretic on gzdoom not launching

so, i'm on windows 8.1 and i am using gzdoom to play heretic but it doesnt launch, when i press play on steam it says starting and then goes back to play. Please help.

Just put HERETIC.WAD file onto gzdoom.exe, this is the easiest way to launch it. I don't use steam for that :)

Here is a useful guide about using the Doom Launcher with GZDoom to launch these games - it talks about Doom, but Heretic and Hexen are basically the same game with different assets.

Good video and thanks for sharing, but it should be a way to make it appear on steam as playing the game, not playing it outside of steam

You should be able to rename gzdoom.exe to dosbox.exe and launch it from steam. That's what I did
