Installing Brutal Heretic with Gzdoom

So I recently installed Gzdoom and it runs perfectly but I can't figure out how to install/run BrutalHereticRPG mod with it. I've downloaded the pk3 file and tried putting it in the Gzdoom folder as well as dragging it into the Gzdoom application. No luck. Can anybody help?

Never heard of Brutal Heretic RPG... Are you trying to load the mod with any custom wads/maps? Also, do you have the most recent build of GZDoom? Finally, did the file contain a read me when you downloaded the mod? It may be incompatible with GZDoom, some mods/maps only work with certain source ports.

Thats the way I do it. I drop the BrutalHereticRPG_V1.pk3 onto the gzdoom exec and choose Heretic from the gzdoom menu that appears. Then it boots up and in the ingame options there are several options to tweak the mod to your liking. I also use the Ketchup mod simultaneously.

I tried this and it gave me a list of errors. 34, to be exact.

In the base heretic folder, there should be 3 bat files. You're suppose to edit the heretic batch file with notepad. An example would be:

.\base\dosbox -conf -fullscreen -file BrutalHereticRPG_V1.pk3
exit

It works only with GZDOOM i think, also there is a "last update" for the mods, Brutal Heretic v2 is very cool but Brutal Hexen seem to be not fully finished but still playable anyway:

You shoul make a video explaining this. because many people don't know. Thanks, i've been trying to run Heretic RPG for hours

Brutal Heretic RPG V2 doesn't work with the latest version of GZDoom. Use the latest version of ZDoom. Drag the the Brutal Heretic pk3 file onto the ZDoom.exe and it will work fine. This mod is so much better than vanilla. Highly recommended.

It should work now with the latest version of GZDoom (3.2.1 and later). No more errors and crashes. If you guys still get errors just grab ZDoom instead.

Agree, ZDoom Launcher is a must.

i use ZDoom as well since i was having the same problem with either Zandronum or GZDoom with either versions of the mod.

I actually prefer ZDoom over GZDoom anyway when playing brutal heretic because the grainy pixelated look in ZDoom gives better gore and blood effects in my opinion. Without the mod I prefer GZDoom.

i've read that you cna coop with it but nowhere a guide or how to do it. Anyone knows how to play coop with gzdoom on heretic?

Maybe this is no longer relevant, but what I did was to put all the Brutal Heretic files in the same folder as GZDoom (this makes the process easier, but is not a necessity) and then select ALL the files at once and right-click drop them in GZDoom.exe and select to open with. The important part is that you should be able to select all four files of Brutal Heretic RPG all at once. When the prompt of GZDoom opens, just select Heretic as usual and it will load ALL the mod files along with. It is a bit of a pain, but it works!
