However, downloading a source port will fix your games. I suggest either Zandronum or GZDoom - Zandronum is more basic and has better multiplayer support, while GZDoom has more features and has better mod support. Simply Google your desired source port, and download it from its official page (it'll be the first option). Once downloaded, you'll need to unzip the files. Then, open Heretic's directory (right-click Heretic in the Steam client, then choose properties, local files, then Browse Local Files). Copy all files found in your GZDoom/Zandronum file and paste them in the "base" folder. Now, rename Dosbox to anything (I call it Dosfox, but most people call it dosbox_backup), and rename the source ports application to Dosbox (if Zandronum, the icon is a helmet, while GZDoom's icon is the Doom Marine). That's it! Start the game how you regularly do, and hit the OK button when asked which game you want to load. Just don't check the box to remember your decision.
This will work with Heretic, Hexen (as well as it's expansion), Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, Final Doom, and Strife. Master Levels for Doom is basically broken, so it may work, but not likely. These source ports add many optional features, such as vertical mouselook and the ability to crouch and jump. It also fixes most issues found with these old games. Have fun, and if you need any more help, I'll do what I can :)
I saw Blood was recently added to steam
I know Blood runs off the DOSbox, I wanted to get this game but will I have same problem and need to use GZDoom for this too????
Unfortunately I'm still terrible at it but I don't think GZDoom would fix that tbh
Thanks!!!!
And no prob, glad I could help you out!
