Will this game have a story?
Any sort of ingame story, characters or campaign?
Without it, I just dont' relate to the factions at all. Imagine C&C without the lore and story, I would never have gotten invested in the franchise.

I know full on FMV cutscenes for small indies is just way too much to ask for, but I do hope they can maybe try and spice up the storytelling, I can think of some stuff.
-Maybe Max Payne esque graphic novel scenes?
-Maybe talking heads with animated speech bubbles and such if you just can't get good voice acting, Crying Suns & Griftlands did a pretty good job of making it engaging to follow dialogue, you can have like animated effects to text being written to add emotion and such (I guess like Paper Mario?), not every indie can be Hades with lovely voice acting I understand.

Then of course campaign missions should have some scripting to tell the advancing events in a story also within missions end their environments, like you're dropped into a mission, event occurs, changes mission parameters, you complete an objective, now the battlefield changes, a plottwist occurs, now you have new objective still in that same mission/map...

Played too many indie rts games where it's just like a bunch of skirmish missions just stringed together with barely any context that feel so passive and lifeless with no world building events occurring during missions, it's just plop down, have your simple "destroy enemy base" or "survive 20 minutes" objectives, and that's that, nothing you couldn't get out of just launching your old C&C games or others and playing their skirmish mode by yourself.

This tweet does at least confirm that campaign seems to be the primary focus over multiplayer:

A couple replies from game's twitter page imply that each faction will have it's own full length campaign, for a total of 3 campaigns.

I don't agree about that first statement at all. C&C 1 Had FMV and it was from an relatively unknown company at the time. Not to mention the technology back then was literally ancient now.

I mean if FMVs are in reality cheap to make then I do hope the devs maybe try their hands at them, I'm all for them, if the devs can get a bunch of friends together and some fun costumes and actually film cutscenes for the game then that's great imo, I've just been under the impression that FMVs are hard and expensive given the indie game landscape of the last 10+ years.

That was exactly what the FMVs in c&c 1 were, bunch of friends recording some nonsense.

And now especially since we have high quality recording devices in our pockets, i dont see a reason why it would be hard or expensive. Or even time consuming. Especially when you're trying to make it look like the quality of a potato like back then.

Not to mention how easy stuff like speciel effects and UI is now with programs such as after effects etc available for cheap.

The game will in fact have a full campaign for each faction at release, complete with animated cutscenes and voice acting.
