Black screen at startup

I played for some minutes, but a bug occoured, when "tutorial" companion star to talk about a merchant, the screen started to round around forever, and I had to exit game, but it chrashed and then I had to kill the task from task manager.
After that, it don't start any more, it show a never ending black screen at game startup.

Same issue for me. Download, install, nothing but a black screen.

It is video a codec problem. I had noticed LAV decoder icon in tray while game hangs. Start searching - found that I have this decoder in k-lite codecs installed. Video files in MMX folder uses VC-1 format according to Media info. Solved this disabling VC1 video decoding in LAV video setup. (K-Lite-Configuration-LAV)

Hello Melkoris,

Thanks for the fix. That is a good one. The black screen can also be related to a old version of the Windows Media Player. Especially on XP maschines we observed that issue.

That LAV think didn't work for me :/ Still getting black screen of impending doom...

long been there XD occurs 35% of the times you open it 10% is pink screen 20% both applications open and stop reacting. once past them all you end up playing but you cant get past the starting area since you cant interract with the "well" whcih you need in order to unlock the exit of the town XD

minor tip: start uplay seperately. next go to steam and open M&M, yes thats right not via uplay... XD

have tryed to uninstall, reinstall .. dont have the codec klcodec or what its called, just black screen with the white box popping up in the top left corner... im on a windows8 pro 64bit :(

I too have this problem still with Win 7 64 bit. Tried everything except a C:\ format....
Don't if I can but probably ask a refund if this thing is going to be like that when game is on air.

sure , just click on ur windows icon Start, click all program, then choose k lite codec, after select configuration and after that clic on lav video. When the panel appear, select format and uncheck the vc1 option apply and close. after that restart ur uplay and start mmx, wait a couple of second and the game will start.
