Is this game even worth it?
So, I want to hear people's honest opinions on this. I alreay bought the game, played about a half hour, and for the entire half hour all I could think was "This is nothing like MM6-9 that I used to play." I bought the game expecting an upgrade, but graphics appear washed out but I suppose they're ok (They feel like they were created using a decade-old game engine, but to be fair they ARE a step up from the old games), the 2D movement SUCKS, performance is really bad on my machine (that doesn't break a sweat in games like Skyrim and Metro 2033), combat is rather clunky and bland, and everything just seems so generic, like almost everything seems to be recycled from something else... I'm debating just stopping now and giving up on the game, but before I do, I want to ask: Does it get any better as you progress? Does it get any more interesting, do you get used to the sucky 2D grid movement, and does the game feel any less generic and cheap as you move on?

I really wanted to like this game. I grew up on this franchise and have loved the recent Heroes series, and really wanted to see a good revival of the main series that brought me back to the later MM games, where the combat was fun and challenging at the same time, you could actually take advantage of the 3D rendered graphics, and the game just kept you entertained for hours and hours with tricky quests and little challenges until before you knew it, you had played away the entire night. So, does it deliver on any of those for someone who loved MM6-9, or am I wasting my time with this game?

Well it was designed to 'deliver' for people who enjoyed the original Might & Magic games. So if you're a fan of 1-5, like myself, then its worth it. They were always pretty upfront that they would not be in the style of 6-9, so it sounds like you went in with false expectations.

Just give up and move on if you're not having fun. I loved the old M&M games and practically every good grid based dungeon crawler to come out before M&M VI. I loved M&M X, especially the grid based movement. M&M X has a few tech issues, but overall I had no crashes or major issues with it. Just don't play it on an old, sucky 32-bit OS. M&M X gave me a proper oldschool experience and I had fun throughout.

So, like I started out saying; if you're not having fun, move on. If the core design of the game doesn't please you, like the grid movement, I don't think you'll enjoy the rest of the game. Plenty of people, including me, enjoy it though.

Enjoying this, satisfying my desire of old school RPG.

For me its awesome. May not have the deep others M&M had, but being a 70+hours game to complete nowadays is a must have for me. There are many bad games there that cost the same and they are like 15 hours.

Ofc its not onmly about the hours, its also the fun. But Im also having a lot of fun here.. Im and oldschool player, and this is a game that brings to me nostalgia feelings, and its a great legacy to the saga, to the old Might and Magic games.

I'm glad what developers have done here. I also love the grid movement and turn based, its awesome. I'm enjoying it a lot, even more that I thought when I bought it. Im almost 50 hours into it actually, and still I don't finish act 3 (there are 4 acts).

I understand that the new generations of players probably hate the game and dont like it. They are used to fps shooters and the like, and more action rpg games in real time. Also, some players from the might and magic 6+ saga could not like it (other enjoy it), and that would be your case.

But honestly, there are many games out there that would fit them. And having this gem is an excelent tribute to all the oldschool gamers that were, like me, praying for a game made this way.

This game is huge disappointment. After failed, but still interesting and playable MM9, developers and game designers managed to fail everything. This game is the worst. I loved MM series and I hope that some day this game will be renamed (something that wont contain "Might and Magic" will do) and then forgotten.

This is a very niche game.
You gotta expect most people will not enjoy this.
But if you're the fans of older MM series(1-5). This is for you.
I have never really played any of the previous mm rpgs (just a little bit each game). but back when i was a kid i always loved these games even if it was just a shareware version. the only true old school dungeon crawler i played all the way through was Lands of Lore 1. that game i loved so much. then legend of grimrock came out like 1 or 2 years ago and i loved that. now i was looking foward to this, im 10 hours in and i LOVE it. so i say if u like lands of lore and grimrock then you probably will like this. theres so much love in this game by the devs it makes me very happy. so yeah, im really happy with this!!

I like the game and theres something here for the fans of MM 1-5 but the perfomance issues runs galore. Me personally I would not recommend this game until they do something about it.

I'm on my 3rd playthrough so, if you ask me, I would say "Yeah, it's worth it." That said, I bought a bunch of classic old-school RPGs from GOG.com, like M&M, Wizardry and Ultima, and just could not get (back) into those(!)

grew up on M&M World of Xeen, the new Legacy installment is just like old classic RPG. the feel is there.
Having played half of the game, have to say the old game was much, much bigger and had more content. M&M X is more linear and does not have as much content.
Still worth 30 bucks imho. It does have some replay value, plus DLC will increase the content and make it more like M&M Xeen.

Personaly, no.
Tried it and played first act - and I had to kind of force myself trough the first act.

When I just started act two and I saw, yet again, that there were no new art assets in this game, I had enough!
This game litirary feels like a mod more so then a standalone game. And the charachters and objects are there to prove the point.
Everything is directly taken from their older titels!

Here is a list with picture links to show you the utter lazyness they had while making this game!

There is literary not even one original charachter in this game, atleast not in the first act.
And these images are taken troughout this game, so I say with confidence that it will not change!

Yea, figure they wouldn't allow links...

At any rate, I urge all of you; google those units and only change which game you are searchnig in. You'll be supprised...

Considering it is the same world/setting, I would *expect* them to use (essentially) the same models, concept art and characters.
Valmar Feb 9, 2014 @ 5:14am
For me pictures help, but they are not the most important feature in a game like this. All of them could even be the same one, or even there would be not pictures at all, and the game is awesome anyway for the oldschool feeling.

I agree about the lazy pictures, but for me there are other important things. Like grid turn based system, and all the things M&M X got in general.

Could be better? for sure. But actually is the game many guys like me wanted. There are many other shooters and rpgs with brilliant graphics out there. I dont care about it, I got this for being what it is. I really like it.

If you don't mind tile-based gameplay, this game is awesome! It is actually harder and more linear at first, then as Act I ends and Act II begins, I think the game really starts to shine; it becomes less linear and you have more options. It is more like MM1-5 than like MM6+, but there are still elements from MM6+ as well (skills that get trained up, even though the manner is slightly different). The universe is also similar to HoMM5/6 I have heard, although I am a newbie to HoMM6 so I can't speak much to that. I do recognize a few of the spells as being tweaked versions of HoMM6 spells, adapted to MMX and turn-based combat.

Hopefully that helps -- I would get it again in a heartbeat, but if you completely despised all of the first 5 M&M games, you probably won't like this one.
