Might & Magic X - Legacy

Might & Magic X - Legacy

Ok - when are we getting MM XI?
Totally had a blast playing the game, so much fun. Now, when are we getting the next installment? I have 180 hours on the game, from early access to a few party rerolls. Hah!

Oh and btw, more action bar slots please!

Might and Magic X was a travesty compared to the beauty and perfection of Might and Magic VI. If there is to be a Might and Magic XI, I beg Ubisoft to get another team to make it.

The simply Turn Based/Real time option switch was sorely missed from MMX. Turn based works great for nasty creatures but is laborious when you have to fight 28 weak insects.
Good thing the game never throws 28 insects at you then. I cannot think of any massive battle in the game that you can win by just spamming the attack button. I had good memories of MM VI and got a new install with this one, so I tried to play it again and gave up at the first goblin camp. Too much grinding.
The very last part in the dark temple thingies was very spammy and extremely simple.
That said: I'd prefer a turnbased combat anytime anyways.
Just happy to get another go-round at Might and Magic, for nostalgia if not for anything else!

having just played through all M&Ms from 3 to 9, I can't believe how people like 6. That was EASILY the worst one by far. It was so incomplete and had nothing but piles of enemies everywhere for no real reason. it had painfully tedious dungeons with painfully tedious swarms of enemies. it had those ridiculous portraits. it had no races, and the fewest classes out of any of them. 7 improved on it in pretty much every way. 8 as well. even 9 was better than 6.

Heh, the five people who hated MM6 must be posting here. The extreme majority, almost everybody in the RPG world loved MM6 when it came out. MMX was garbage, even if it wasn't a MM, it would be still be a garbage RPG. Just let a new team develop it, I'm sure at their worst it'd be better than MMX. That's all I have to say on this subject. I'm still laughing from the guy who said that MM9 was better than 6. Hehe the pope is an atheist too.

which one's have you actually played? any of them? what does 6 do better than 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, or even 9? the only thing wrong with 9 is that it's VERY unpolished and a little too easy to break quests. otherwise has some of the best music, story, and character progression, especially from the latter ones. 3 will probably always be my favorite, though.

seems like you're just trolling, you probably haven't actually played any of them and just didn't like X being a turn based game. boohoo.
Personally I didn't like 6 as much as 5 or 7 (or 8 or 9) but preferred them all a little to 10 which is "flat" and plays like a chore rather than a game.

not trying to be antagonistic, but do you have any reasons for thinking it's "the best"? I suspect it was technologically impressive for its time in some ways, and so people have fond memories of it for those reasons. but it really does not have anything at all over the others in terms of gameplay. there's not a single thing it does well that at least one other MM doesn't do better, and it does a lot of things worse than any.
I think the real-time system of M&M VI and later just didn't work. First it looked very ugly (even at that time), and controling a party of heros in ego-perspective is somehow strange. The fights were boring, as you just has to fight against huge swams of weak enemies. Of course, the old M&M games were not better, in Xeen you just pushed the attack button (especially because skills do not scale up in the latter game). In M&M X instead I finally had some interesting, tactical fights (first time in the series!). Instead of spam you with swarms of weak monsters, you often find yourself trapped by a few powerful enemies. And people cry about not be able to flee (which would make this whole trap idea useless) or to farm (although there is enough gold in the game). In the end it is really sad that instead of enjoying a successor of these old game series we all love so much, the community is divided into M&M 1-5 fans who love this game and M&M 6-9 fans who hate it. Although in my opinion M&M X somehow combines everything good from M&M 1-5 and M&M 6-9.

I also do not understand why so many people want a Dragon Age or Skyrim like game. Of course this games are great. But just play them instead. Why do we need a Dragon Age in a Might and Magic world? Come on, the world of Might and Magic is clearly the weakest part of the series. The story is lame, the world is changing with every new developer just recycling names and races. The cool thing on M&M X is that it is a retro game. If I want an AAA game I would prefer it from developers with experience in AAA games (like the makers of Witcher, Dragon Age or Skyrim).
I found M&M VII and VIII the best. VI was too difficult (I'm a mage-lover. And the mana-costs in 6 were ridiculus...) VII has an interesting story and VIII an interesting setting. IX is... not worth mentioning imho. Concept was not bad, but it even don't work on modern systems anymore...
I didn't try 1-5 realy. M&M X is good. (I play it again at the moment) But I also miss the option to flee. I don't like situations where the enemies, come out of nowhere!

The world changed between VIII and IX, and this is told in VIII... Although M&M IX is not the world, we have now (Ashan) the reason for that is, that 3DO has gone for good, and didn't have the opportunity to work out the new world in M&M IX. So Ubisoft did that part.

I didn't read the worldchange between III (Tera) and IV (Xeen), and V (Xeen) and VI (Erathia), though, if there even is a story... Since Heroes V, the M&M-World is Ashan afaik.

To the attack: MIGHT-focused parties were boring until part IX, imho, because you didn't have special melee-actions available (just attack.) There were effects, but they're passive and chance-based. And the melee-attacks didn't show any animations.
Melee in X is much more interesting, because of warfare. You still have no animations, but at least you have some special effects with different actions available, and they're not chance- but action-based. so you can much more rely on them. I like the combat (and movement)-system of VI-IX more, than that of X, though.

So I wish, we could have a M&M XI with a free-movement-system of VI-IX, but with the interesting combat of X. It's important to direct-attack, though. I don't like a combat-system as we have in wizardry, where you plan the actions, and target spells (especialy aoe-spells) and 'till the spell is cast, the enemy is somewhere else or the spell can't be cast anymore. (I hate that in Wizardry. You plan cone-based spells, walk, and then can't cast them anymore, but you can't change the order. Only 8 is an exception, if you play in continous combat.)
IX is playable, since I played through it recently on my 64-bit Windows 7 computer. It's broken and very unfinished, but if you can get around that, it has VERY good parts.

there is an in-game explanation for the world change from III to IV/V, but I won't spoil it.

Erathia and Ashan both come from HofM&M which I don't have much experience with. neither is explained in the M&M games.

I don't like the free movement system it feels too exploitable and not constrained enough, but I can understand why someone would like it.

Yes X definitely has way more interesting combat.
on windows 7, this might be the case. At least I got it started there a few years ago. But I have windows 10 now...
I would love a MMXI too (huge lover of MM6 here and imo it's the best in the series), but how much sales did X make? I remembered ubisoft pull off support for X few months after it was released, was it because X didn't gather the sales that ubisoft had hope?
