The player in this case must not have finished MM8 because I have just played both games recently and MM8 is definitely a larger game than MM7. Might and Magic 7 is a great game, but not in every respect. The dungeons were tiny and way too simple compared to the excellent ones in MM6. Some were barely more than a single room. The areas and dungeons were both much smaller than in MM6. Those in MM8 were smaller than in MM6 but larger (seems so to me, they are certainly at least no smaller) than in MM7. Some of this is my own estimate but it is my honest estimate and I am not defending or attacking either game. In MM6 (which was clearly the best of the three) there were multuple series of quests, which when finished up led to more quests inaccessable earlier. It is similar in MM8, with huge underground areas leading to entirely inaccesable otherwise surface areas. I found it to be a fun game.
I feel the posters pain over paying $50 for a promise of a monthly benefit that was never delivered. It always hurts to be cheated out of hard-earned money and it was a desperate move and, as the poster says, a bitter explotation of fans. Even if MM8 were a great game, it would not justify cheating fans out of their money. The game is not at fault; the architects of that program are, possibly criminally (sounds like fraud to me).
About MM9 I agree with the poster, but because of basic design decisions early in the development process, MM9 did not deserve to be published at all. It nerfed the excellent magic system with many wonderful spells, removed one of the absolute best features of the game, flying, and made movement outside of town areas one dimensional with trails that had to be followed to get from point A to point B when away from towns. It also introduced required dexterity in the player, as if there were not enough games already out there to challenge the physical dexterity of players.
Just FYI, for anyone why has read this far. I am playing MM8 now and having a blast. Playing with no recruiting of a dragon or any characters above the lowest available. There is plenty of game to develop them all fully and totally immersive. It and MM7 are the only non-steam games I put much time into. Not sure why Steam does not carry those great games.
I agree, I was a big fan of the Might and Magic and Wizardry games and this was just as good. I would have to say that this was one of the best games I have played in 15 years or so and probably would put it in my top 20 games that I've played in the past 30 years. I honestly don't understand the negative reviews of this game at all.
Major manufactures and distributors have not figured out yet what made the might and magic games so great. It is like giving a Faberge Egg to a toddler.
7 was bad? Come on! It had sufficient speedbumps against speedruns with easter eggs. In MM6 you could simply use the fly scroll in New Sorpigal to instantly jump in power in enormous strides. In MM7 at least you were bumped with Fly and other speed spells tied to Wizard promotion.
And MM6 had insanely big, INSANELY big dungeons that bored me to death. 8's dungeons were too small, 7 was just right.
Sometimes what you like changes as you get older too.
If u consider it from logic point of view itz legacy so to say the last of itz kind but from the point of the user it would make sense but if not im sure it will influence all the following titles of the future as they can learn from the back-longing past.
So i assume in a decade or so we hear from them again..perhaps with another publisher cause i read the last had certain probs with the mother company..who has quiet a good repution-titles in the past..
so letz cee what the future keeps avaible for us
and thanks to ubi soft
...3 was ok too. Sigh...
Jesus, why did they ditch the Star Trek universe? :( Why can't we have Ancients and cyborgs? Just because some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AND MORONS AND ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DID THREATEN VAN CANEGHEM TO DROP THE STAR TREK IN-UNIVERSE!
