The controls in this game are TERRIBLE!
I uninstalled this game after a few minutes because of the abysmal controls. The primary actions of the game should NOT compete with themselves! Imagine if you had to use the E, R, or F keys in a first person shooter to fire your gun. it would be ridiculous. Either map actions like attacking, sliding, and retaliation to the mouse or keys on the right side of the keyboard.

Also, why is retaliation a separate key from attacking if it's context-sensitive...? That doesn't make much sense to me.

Yea, I think the game needs the option to remap buttons. Right now, the keyboard controls do not mesh well together at all.

I quit the game as well, controls were terrible...

Definitely is a "controller game" - and I would absolutely love rebindable controls on controller as well (it's on keyboard already, but game still feels clunky with it) - I know in the earlier demos they had a popup that basically said "controller strongly recommended" or something like that, and honestly, I would still strongly recommend using a controller if at all possible.

Edit: To be less confusingly worded.

Certainly a pain without controller.
But even with - why is "counter attack" on a different button than "attack"?

The game is supposed to be "accessible" but doesn't even have rebindable keys, great priorities there.

Totally meant to be played with a controller. Sometimes games are just like that. I make an entire section in my Steam library for them, so that I can remember I need to plug in a controller to actually enjoy the game.

What? You can rebind keys as you please, it's in the options menu.

Can't for controller, which is what I think he meant.

No they definitely meant keyboard, rebinding is just tucked away in a main menu exclusive setting which made all of the people here think you can't

hi guys, you can remap it with the xbox360ce, that's how I did it and I even put it to attack with the left mouse button.

Yep, controls are complete trash, it's all keyboard no mouse. I'm trying to play the demo and I'm hopping like an idiot and getting no where, I just lost patience and uninstalled it. Pretty game though, it's just not all there. I found myself unable to interact with it to my personal satisfaction so I gave up and quit rather than endure further unnecessary frustration which is not what a game is for. A frustration and a stress generator. I play games for entertainment. If I can't use my mouse in a game from the beginning, it's a game killer for me. It's why I generally hate Japanese games, they love using the keyboard and overlooking the POINT AND CLICK that Americans are generally used to. That most of the computer using world are accustomed to. This one I couldn't even figure out how to use my gaming mouse, so why buy a gaming mouse if the games you play are for controllers or just a keyboard? it's not like I downloaded this game on a console. I've got three mice with 12 buttons on the side and RGB lighting, so I'm just going to use the keyboard or my controller (I have one but I hate using it).

I was getting some serious Hollow Knight vibes, a game I've never finished. I think I have at most a couple hours in and then I lost interest.

If you stumble across this post, this either is no longer the case, or it was never fully the case.

I mean, the controls for mouse and keyboard absolutely do suck, but the game supports rebinding game actions out of the box. The OP is absolutely correct that the initial settings for things like attack and dash are bonkers, but I rebound attack to left click and dash to thumb button, and the game feels actually pretty good now.

Can you double-bind inputs? Like, can retaliate and attack share the same key? If so, I'd accept that. If you can't and there aren't any situations when you'd rather attack than retaliate, I'd say the game still has control issues.
