They are going to ruin this golf franchise as well. That's where this is heading. They are going to shutdown the servers on the previous golf game when they release the latest version.
2K are a money grubbing publisher. This is another reason why it's never good when a small developer is bought out by a Publisher with deep pockets. EA has ruined Bioware and they are doing the same to Codemasters.
I'm glad Supergiantgames who've made great games like Hades and Bastion said they will not sellout to anyone because they have seen what happens to talented small as well as indie developers.
until they shutdown the servers late this year
That's a pretty crappy thing to do, cutting off access to community created Golf courses on their previous Golf titles with the exception of the current one. As I mentioned, they all appear to be running on the same servers.
NBA 2K20 was the last NBA game I would buy from them. It looks like PGA 2K23 will be my last game in the series for me. I won't encourage this behavior with my money. I'm sure 2K/Take Two doesn't care if I buy it or not but that's the reason why Publishers love the idea of Digital and server based games.
It's for the following reason.
Those at the very top don't play PC games, too busy doing things only the ultra rich can do I suppose, so when an underling says, "EA makes billions from online only and micro transactions, yes the buyers hate them, but they are mostly (no offense) spineless sycophants who will pay anything to feel "embiggened".
Top person(s) say, "Make it $o".
Just like you will never have a single player game of the content style and quality of "The Saboteur", ever again, so too are forever gone any hopes of decent offline singleplayer games.
I would suggest to try to find games pre-2010 that are fun and get them from some place which will let you store them offline on your own computer.
I live by analogy so, take "World of Warcraft" Retail oh the decline, only now getting better, but man oh man, did they stick the landing with "Classic Era Wow".
Minimal progressive filler, zero microtransactions (Classic Era Only).
Just like how I read it was presumed that it takes a while for a huge Sauropod Dinosaur to feel a pain in the tip of it's tail travel back up to it's brain, so too it will be at least another 3 to 5 years before the people in the high places notice and say, "hey, people hate what we are doing, some of them have even regrown their spines and are playing and spending their money (we want) elsewhere!
Maybe we should do something about this?
Calling it now, [If], no offline modes which let you save your courses and offline stats, [then], 2K's now obligatory "mixed reviews" from real people, but 13/10 from paid. "reviewer-shills".
I will now go offline, restart STEAM, and play PGA2K21 on my own custom (unpublished) desert course, which can neither be taken from me, nor altered, as it has been years since I let PGA2K21 update. (take note of updates, they can bite you and not in a good way).
Kindest possible regards to those who share my world views.
