Potentially interested in getting one.
You can use it on either. I use it on both my PC and Xbox. It's a great controller. Unfortunately, I have whatever the controller bug issue is on this game with any controller I have disconnecting eventually.
Mine has worked perfect out of the box, my old official xbox controller also worked without issue on this demo but I could never get good swings.
Just remember that this particular one is not wireless, they have other models if wireless is something you want. Just make sure it also have hall effect sensors to get the nice precision and lack of stick drift in the future.
Remember the HE has mechanical buttons and there are taste differences if you like that or not. The d-pad for instance could be harder to use in fighting games, the SE one is really smooth and creamy like you feel the rubber press it's really nice not stiff at all but still tactile but have that old NES feel. It's the best feeling d-pad on a controller so far to me and I have lived through consoles since the NES days.
I also hear the HE is a bit smaller than the SE in size which had some guy return his and keep the SE. Then you have the rubberized grips on the HE which I personally don't like so another plus for the SE. Then you have paddle locks on the SE which the HE does not have.
If you like clicky mechanical buttons you might be satisfied but saying it's higher spec:ed is misleading. Both these controllers cost the same where I live, I did long research on both and landed on the SE anyway. Important to say that because what sounds "best" on paper is not always best in reality when there are mechanical changes done to them, it changes the entire comparison.
You need to know yourself when choosing gear and what will please your particular needs. I know my needs so the SE was a no-brainer. Just looking at them, seeing they look identical you might get the latest and the one they say is "best". In this case the changes are so great that it turn the controller into something else so you can't just say HE is a new better SE, they are very different now and need to be considered on a player basis what the player needs.
Give your HE a good playthrough in platformers, fighting games also with the d-pad so you know. The buttons will not be the problem I think, it will all be about the d-pad. It could be great but I never tried it so I am giving opinion on the SE only.
Another reason I went SE is sound, I stream on twitch and I don't need my mic picking up more clicky things. The SE is almost silent, less sound picked up in my mic than my Official Xbox controller so another plus. Again it comes down to what you need but first find out what you need, many don't.
I needed no clicky buttons, I needed good classic rubber D-pad that is easy to press for combos in fighting games. I didn't want rubber on the grips since I hate that. So the SE was my choice over the HE, the paddle locks is just a bonus on the SE but not that important. The rest is the same, both go to 1000hz, both have hall sensors etc.
I hope this helps.
Thanks so much for detailed comments. Re my gaming habits, I'm not into fighting games/first person shooters etc.
If you turn off rumble in game it should stop?
You have the nexus software for the gamesir g7 SE, there you can individually decide strength of left and right trigger rumble and left and right handlegrip rumble plus turn it off.
I get no more rumble in PGA with it untouched (ON) in Nexus but Legend difficulty in game. So the rumble is a setting in the golf game that turns off when setting it on legend difficulty.
Great then I think you will love it and there is a chance the mechanical is great as well so get back here and tell me because I'm very curious. Maybe it's an awesome d-pad who knows.
But you say overshoot a lot, I will test it later at PC I know you can turn off rumble in Nexus though and then you won't get rumble at all.

It's crazy right, back in the day OG controller was the only thing that worked and you ran when someone mentioned 3rd party controller. You knew it was gonna be stiff and feeling cheap but now third party is what you want.
Such high quality, it feel so premium when you open it, everything from box to the cord and the little plastic bag it's in. Then the removable magnet face plate is really cool and fit perfect so you can't tell it can be removed at all. Easy for cleaning, some great design choices were made here.
