Connection failed

I'm so pissed, me and 3 more friends got this game to play together, apparently the error is from me cause they can play but i can't join them ( and they can't join me if I host).

I've tried to find some solutions, only could find this -openport on startup options but that doesn't work and i'm feeling like i wasted my money for nothing

i've tried turning off my firewall but it keeps happening

That command in launch options is not enough to open the ports for players to connect. You need to forward the ports directly to your modem/router. It might be slightly difficult for someone first trying to do it, but there's plenty of guides out there to help.

If you don't want to go through forwarding ports directly, I believe user on here have reported using the program Evolve[www.evolvehq.com] to avoid forwarding ports to modem/router. Maybe that will help you.

Actually, re-reading your post it seems ports might not be your issue. Although I'm not sure what else to suggest right now besides ports or firewall.

Do other source games work for playing online fine? Can you connect to other players servers in Contagion? (The official servers aren't quite updated yet)

I have the same issue. I get a notification that after 4 tries I couldn't connect to the server. My friends get the same message when I try to host.

I opened the ports i could read on another posts or on internet forums. Every game that uses source works pretty well . It's just contagion , but that's not "really a general error" cause I can join an internet server (using the browser) and my friens can come to that server. the point comes when i try to play on a private game with my friends and "i can't join them and they can't join me".

Are you guys using any virtual LAN programs like Evolve or Hamachi? I don't know this for sure, but thinking about it if you guys are all trying to connect over a program like that it could confuse the server into thinking the connection are coming all from one port. You guys could try changing your "clientport" in console to something different for everyone. (I don't know if that would do a thing for you)

All signs tend to point to forwarding ports, or firewalls blocking stuff. So that's about all I can really suggest right now. You'll of course want to make sure the person hosting has "sv_lan" set to 0 in console.

I do not use LAN programs. Ports are open and firewalls isn't blocking contagion.

I've tried to play without the firewall (being off) also forwarding ports 27015 and 27016 but i can't play with them on a private game, only public servers

also i do not have evolve and i uninstalled hamachi like a month ago

I think I've given you guys all the solutions there are. I'm beginning to think it might be some issue with our game, although if it worked before it should still work. I don't think we've changed anything in that regard with these updates.

Sorry that I can't seem to find a solution for you guys. We'll try to figure out if there's something we need to fix.

Don't worry, I see your work within supporting guys who have problems. I'll play with my friends on publics servers, despite the fact we can't play on a private game, we all think that the game is pretty fun and enjoyable.

Same problem here for me and freinds I have DMZ my PC and completely dissabled the Windows firewall but we canot connect with each other we just get the "after 4 tries I couldn't connect to the server" message

I have treid restarting both PC and router all other games play fine no dramas can host servers and forward just fine only Contagion is having problems for me and freinds.

I starting to think this is the game and not us.

Thx Neo I am running Windows 10 x64 Pro

I did get it to work by removing the brackets from the server name as I had brackets in my Steam name so the game copied it I have no idea if this was the solution but it worked directly after changing that and puting in a server password.

maybe if others here having problems could try thier games again and make sure that they check these things maybe we could have found the problem hopefully.
