How to change maps on my dedicated server!

Hey!

So turns out I'm a super noob, and I am currently renting a server from Gameservers.com
However I seem to be too dumb to figure out how to change the map and the mode on my own server.. first I had lots of problems bringing up the console but eventually fixed it thanks to an old post from like 2013..

What I do is I log onto my own server true the server list, type my PW and once I am in I try to do rcon_password MYPASSOWRD and then
map ce_biotech for instance

but when I do this instead of changing the map of my server it creates a local private game for just me that no one else can join.. Could anyone explain how the hell the right way of doing this is ? Please and much thanks!

add rcon before any command, so that the command would send to remote server rather take effect on your own pc
and use changelevel rather than map,like if you want to change to biotec: rcon changelevel ce_biotec
mode depends on the map you played, map starts with ce means escape, ch is hunt, cx is extract, cf is flatline

You need to write "rcon changelevel ce_biotech.bsp" instead. Without rcon it means your pc will make a map change :)

Hey Frisa! thanks that helped me understand quite a bit.. however where and when do i type in my 'rcon' password ? i assume I can't just jump onto a server and do rcon changelevel ce_biotec and it would change it ? or was my first sentence correct, with the rcon_password "MyPassword" but without the quotation marks ?

do rcon_password first, without quotation mark, then you can send any rcon command you wish

Woop!! my server is finally on biotec haha, thanks alot!
More questions tho if you have time lol..
If I want to change things like difficulty and infection on/off, can I do this like 'live' through the console, or would those things requier a restart of the server ?

you need to edit the configuration file, which is server.cfg in cfg directory, i think you can edit that file on gameserver's control panel too, then restart the server
