How can I open the console?

Press ~ to open the console
If it's not enabled go to Options -> Keyboard/Mouse -> and set ALLOW DEVELOPER CONSOLE to Enabled.

Im having the same problem, i just can't figure out what's the key to open the console, i know that people are saying ' but it doesn't work (yes, i have the developer console enabled). Does anyone know the key(s) to open the console in other source games (well, other than ' key)?

-console in the game launch options and you I have the console...only problem: If I click on start game it disappers...

i have had it switch to one of the F keys before in some games. f12 or f11, found it odd.

Try opening the config.cfg(In my case it's located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\ContagionBeta\contagion\cfg) and bind it to another key(Type bind "/" toggleconsole)

EDIT: it's already in the config file search for toggleconsole and change the key binding.

The problem is Source here, people.
Non-English keyboards and always having that "`" enabled by default.
I always have trouble getting to the console when on my German layout,
and some Source games/mods like to actually kill your config at startup.
As I mostly type in English anyways, I keep the layout set to English.
Problem solved. ;)
Might be a tip if you can't be bothered going through config files and such.
I'm serious here, as many peole cringe at seeing those text files.
Hope this helps those less technically minded players.

Yea this is what I saw while I was quickly searching for a solution. While it is annoying that it doesn't work for everyone due to different keyboards, we can be thankful that it was easily solved by editing a config file. Also if people going to use the console they might as well be willing to edit a config file, otherwise there is no point as you can play the game without the console just fine.

I tried binding a new key for it but everytime I start the game the file somehow resets itself. I even checked after saving and closing and it had saved the new bind but always when I start the game it resets :/

JPN keyboard here. Somtimes works sometimes doesn't. If i'm running Photoshop escape doesn't work either :)

I hope you guys fix this in the full version?
For people who still need help: Start the game with -console in the start options from steam and you have a console at the game start, type sv_password (passwordhere) before you klick on something and you can start your private game :)
