Best Gore Effects in an Indie Developed Game?
I just had to post this as it amazes me how grim, sloppy and shiny the gore and dismemberment is in this game. I whooped with delight the first time I found out that high caliber weapons can rip chunks off a zombie. The model damage system is superb. I've seen zombie's arms blown off while they still come at me for my tender flesh. It's just so awesome and brutal. Please, please don't tone any of this stuff down in future releases. The killing is just so damn satisfying!

Also, shotgun or AMR rifle aimed at the legs = pure gratification!

Ha, cool vid, :) Yeah the gore in this game is flat out brilliant. I thought I'd never see it done better than the gore/dismemberment system in L4D2, but man, this game is giving it a run for its money!

That said, there's still a few things I'd love to see added or improved upon in this area:

- Like to see more violent knockback from the weapons when a body is hit. The shotgun, at least, should knock a zombie back and down and then they have to get back up again.
- Love in L4D2 the exposed ribcage stuff and how guts slowly come spilling out and intestines dangle and drag as they walk toward you.
- Kind of wish the blood color was a tad brighter red. All Source games tend to have the blood color too dark. I prefer movie-like redder shades (ala Romero's original DAWN OF THE DEAD) Might be just me, though.
- When a human player dies I'd like to see even more of a "feast event" as the zombies converge and eat the body (nearby zombies should all come running to eat), and the dying guy should totally be screaming and stuff for several seconds, too. I want to feel really bad for my buddy and try harder to avoid the same fate! :D
- I'd dig a bit more of a visceral, violent feel when you get bit by a zombie. I want to see them actually biting down on me and then maybe some random blood spray in the air as they do. Again, just watch the original DAWN and pay attention to any zombie attack scene. It should feel like that to get attacked.

Anyway, those are just some things I'd love to see added and/or iterated on further down the line. The game is so good already in this department, that it just gets me excited to see even more added! :)

its almost the same as in l4d but abit more easy made because the gore is just a texutre kinda over the body texture but still looks good enough but i think no more room in hell has the better gore because of the blood fountain and then the blood starting to grow on ground.
but i like the meat bits in contagion flying around and the crawling zombies too but the animations should be better overall.

I like how the bits you chop off from the zombie bodies aren't soo exagerated like in Left 4 Dead, i am not complaining about L4D, but it feels much more natural in Contagion, like you said, it's brilliant.

NMRiH gore looks pretty bad, in my opinion. Blood doesn't just "stream" out of an individual when they get shot. This game has the best gore I've seen since L4D2, and then some.
Wtf?

I don't get any gore effects.

I shoot a zombie in the head with a shotgun and their head look exactly the same as it did when they were still alive.

I have the same problem as I can not see that the zombies are gibbing.

agreed on the gore! also like to add another thing that stood out for me. sound effects! gun sounds are so satisfying. hoping to see more weapons and things like maybe silencers for pistols, that would be cool

Yes, the gore is wonderful tastefully done. And the sound scape is really something extraordinary. Hard to put it into words, but the sound makes the game feel more 4D than 3D. Anyway, I own many hats - lift them all in honor of the developers. Keep it up and hold onto what makes you distinctive.

Necro'ing my thread to ask whether we'll be able to hack off zombie heads with the sharper melee weapons.... feels a little tame when i'm wielding a nice sharp axe or machete and no head slices off. It doesn't have to happen in 1 swing as I know you have to balance things but i'd love to be able to eventually slice off the undead's noggin. The game is crying out for it. :)
