PD Unwinable. Boltcutters and Keys.
After what was around 90 minutes to 2 hour of trying, me and a friend playing co-op determined that the police station level is unwinable. Unlike most, we didn't have much trouble finding the keys, though part of that might have been luck or an accident.

After going through the button scenes we hit the major stoping point, the boltcutters. We searched for half an hour at least, maybe an hour, before checking forums and finding no help. Eventually, we ended up spawning them via cheat.

On the roof, the phone said to check the radio tower, but there was nothing there. None of the doors would open, even with keys. At that point my friend suggested no clip, but I through my hands up and gave up.

There was a shutter with a key pad that didn't work, what looked like a sliding door we never found a button to open, and we never found the "real" boltcutters.

I made this post so that hopfully, anyone else who has the same problem, can know to give up. At the time of this writing, be it bad luck on our part, just the game being incomplete, or both, but the PD level seems like it can't be completed at the current time, or at very least can be made unwinable.

While any suggestion of making items easier to find is met with "CoD fanboy" or "don't dumb down the game!!!11!", I do think this is a serious problem with the game. I've played many a survival horror in my day, and while I don't think a CoD style waypoint would suit the game, I don't think the most difficult aspect of the game should be finding the right items and door ways.

Even then, finding where the items are located should be the challenge, not trying to pick out one barely indistinct bit of clutter from other indistinct clutter.

The boltcutters are in the garage if you have to extract through the radio tower chopper. After getting them you can unlock the door the roof. When you find and enter the radio tower you can press a button to call for extraction, although that will present a new problem for you guys.

EDIT: Since the keys and boltcutters spawn in different locations every time you may not have this kind of problem next time you play. You really have to search EVERYWHERE sometimes.

We checked everywhere, even double and tripple checking all the security stations for buttons we missed. We couldn't find the bolt cutters. We were searching for a long time. So again, I doubt it's a case of us not simply searching enough. If that was the case, then the cutter are stupidly hidden above and beyond what is reasonable.

Even when we cheated, the phone said to check the radio tower, but none of buttons in there did anything and none of the doors elsewhere would open. So even if we found the boltcutters, we'd have been screwed anyway.

I've completed the map several times with my friends, without using cheats. When we had trouble finding the bolt cutter, we played until they were needed to procede, and we got a text on the cellphone which had a distancecounter to the boltcutters.

Bolt cutters can spawn in: Cafateria dock on shelf, Excersize yard on toolbox, Table in Cell Block A, Basement garage office, or on roof in area accessable by ladder. If your on the roof and havn't accessed the office, basement, armory, or garage then you can not escape from there. Go into radio tower and cell phone should buzz telling you to head to basement. At this point double doors, which were locked, now can be opened.

Sounds like it's winable sometimes, or even most of the time, but not when we played.

If it was in any of those places, then it was so well camoflaged that we somehow didn't see it, again, going back to my point that the challenge should be finding the item, not trying to distinguish a usable item amongst indistinct clutter.

The text message we had was something like "Check the radio tower before heading to the basement." However, there was no usuable buttons in the radio tower, and no open doors for us to progress, so even then, something was broken somewhere I think. If there was any places we hadn't visited, then the only way to get to them would've been to no clip through some of the doors. As said, there was at least 1 sliding door and the door at the docks that didn't open.

SabreXT: Other than players getting themselves stuck (fixed for next update) using elevator shaft on roof as survivor and possibly a button not highlighting in radio tower (please check all buttons) there should be no break in the script/code/map as we've looked into it repeatedly. As for items, bolt cutters look like bolt cutters and highlight like all the items in the game so not really camouflaged.

For some RoanokePD is incredibly easy, others a good challenge, but this is the first time anyone has claimed "unwinnable" :/ We will take another look before our update but other than the 2 issues mentioned there shouldn't be any other issues. Screens/Vids welcome though :)

Early-Access is really Hardcore, Iv only found the keys once. Which I'm starting to figure out where they might spawn after playing the same map over and over. It's by far my most favorite map!

I think you should add difficulty selection, which clearly this early-access being near hardcore, and hopefully even harder with bigger hitting AI zombies. (Lower hitting player zombies and less HP - OP) in the future. Id suggest adding a RED/BLUE or whatever color type of GLOW on items like weapons or objective items.

Red: Weapons
Blue: Quest Objectives (Keys/Bolt Cutters)

Which should be on Normal or Easy difficulty, all without removing the challenge of the game. Without nerfing AI and such optionally!

Chii: all already addressed :) Also please read the forum rules and avoid hijacking threads with off-topic posts. I apologize you spent 45mins creating said posts but you clearly understood what you were doing by admitting to both hijacking and posting in the wrong discussions area. It is our job to clean it up, that can't be helped. If one of the developers spent 3hours making a post doing the same we'd have removed it :) That said if you create a post I can copy & paste it as it's not visible to everyone but mods/developers.

I'll take your word for it.

I could record, but that would kill the frame rate. Given that I'm already having aiming issues, a bad frame rate wouldn't help. I don't know if there is a demo record feature that is reliable in the game I could use. I remember source used to allow exporting demos as .tga and .avi files, but an update broke that long ago, I don't know if it was ever fixed, but that would be perfect.

By the sounds of it, it might have been a fluke. It's worth noting that outside we could hear rain, but saw snow, or the screen started flickering with strange paterns. And as I said repeatedly, this wasn't some ADD kids complaining the game is broken when we hit a locked door. We spent half an hour, maybe more, looking to get around this 1 boltcutters problem. Before trying the forum, finding nothing, so we resorted to cheats, having spent a good hour on the map so far, minimum. It could be a none repeatable bug.

I'm also aware the game is in Beta, and real Beta, not a "here's a paid demo we call a Beta", so bugs are to be expected. Just, finding no help on the forums, I thought it would be worth making this thread for anyone else who finds themselves stuck in the same situation. I can only report our experience, and when it requires Noclip to progress, something is broken somewhere.

It sucks getting stuck though I don't think we've ever been stuck so bad that we wanted to quit - we just split up and searched every nook and cranny 'til we found what we needed to move on, haha. There was even this one time when someone joined, grabbed the bolt cutters and later disconnected and we had NO IDEA where. We couldn't find them in the longest time, hahaha.

I would like to see this whole getting stuck "for real" situation happen though so it can be confirmed, you should add me on Steam or something so I could join a game sometime and see if it will happen again!

@Sabre: As of right now there is only 1 area that would require a noclip and we've fixed that for our upcoming update (the elevator shaft into guard station 3 as a survivor if you somehow didn't unlock the door. Zombies can still move to the catwalk and climb over the railing) Is what I was pointing out.

How come there is no horde event while the garage gate is opening at the end? Is this intentional or a bug?

This is most probably yet to be fixed. There was a last horde before the last patch... not the greatest one, but there was it. Will probably get fixed in the near future (I presume)

I was aware of my mistake, and agree. I was just really tired, and hoping to get your spotlight on my small suggestion by skipping the line. I don't need to read the forum rules, since iv learned basic forum rules on many other forums. (Except this is my first time, making posts on steam, and treated the forum slightly differently. It is the same.

I got away with it until I brought out the nailgun ya-know? Should of brought the Teddy-Bear shotgun. I felt a bit of a sting after it, and felt negative vibes come out of it. No hard feelings at all, it won't happen again. Overall at least I got out with no scars, if you get what I mean.

On topic: Iv yet to find the boltcutters or the generators, but that's why it keeps me coming back just like today, regardless of yesterday. Surviving another day. =]
