How does one climb down a ladder correctly without falling?

As title. This has been an issue for me in various FPS games, when I'm on the roof of a building for example and there is a ladder on the side of the wall going down. How do I grab the ladder? I always find myself crouching and trying to go backwards slowly but I can't grab the ladder and so I fall down. Only when the ladder is long enough I sometimes manage to grab it with air control, but most of the times the fall is too short to be able to grab it and long enough to do damage.

Also, how do I melee windows correctly? I find myself aiming all over the place, not being able to break certain parts of the glass, going through it and losing damage.

Advice would be greatly appreciated!

Lol how I do it is just walk off and press back just as I down/fall down. It works for me still it needs improved.

The glass I hit the middle and just work round it pressing left mouse button.

Hey thanks yeah you use the ladders the other way around! Gonna try that, maybe it's easier. Still I think any ladder in an FPS game should be a usable item, or is that a bad idea? Just like using a door, with an icon and such, so you can grab and let go of the ladder with the use button whenever you want.

Yeah I get what you mean with the glass, but it seems like there's always a corner (or 2) I can't seem to break, no matter how I position myself or where I aim. After 40 tries, I just run through it.

I generally find that all though the fall sounds crushing and painful you don't really take any damage from it on most of the ladders (at least on normal).

Well yeah, you don't lose much, I play on hard so I assume it's a little less on normal, but it's not that much damage indeed. But health kits are rare, and after falling down 2 times or something during an escape, and effin around with some window breaking, I always find I lost way too much health on these silly things :)

Strafing works best. We are looking into a new climb system and melee system that allows for clearing windows with what you've got. :)

ok so now twice in montclair map. after u pass the 1st sewer it's fine after u get into the plantation, through the basement and out then the 2nd sewer.... this is where I died twice! TWICE!! I put my mask on and try to crouch and boom fall to my death. this is so frustrating! 2 hours in this mission, surviving all this then die from a fall. plz fix this. thanks

Before you are going down into the sewer check out where the ladder is first. You don't need to crouch, just touch the ladder to use it :)

by touch u mean press E? what should I press ?

It's like on all other source games with ladders just walk or run to it and you will climb on it automatically. You just need to walk or run into the direction where the ladder is located when you want to go down the sewer. I guess by crouching you didn't got any contact with the ladder so you just fell down to death.
