What a game!

Tried it for the first time and killed 3 evenings in a row just soloing different Escape maps. Haven't escaped once yet, but I'll be damned if this isn't the best shambler zombie FPS out there.

Best to play with friends in my opinion, always was fun be it nowadays or back then in 2014, good thing is the lobby was reworked so more people can actually host a game with their friends than how the old lobby system worked.

Always good to see people enjoying the game, there is also servers with people on/in it depending on the time, just check the server browser on steam when you search for Contagion only. :)

just had my first multiplayer game with a friend.

after many tries we couldn't connect with p2p so we joined an empty server and to our surprise it got crowded pretty quickly.

tbh it killed some of the immersion and most of the challenge, we blasted through the map pretty fast, on Extreme too. had a huge infected outbreak in the end so we all died, but it was a lot of fun.

is there a reliable way to only play with specific people? I'm immediately loving this community but at the same time would love to experience this with a group of friends who are all new to the game

You can try hosting a lobby using the "server reservation" mode, instead of P2P connection (works the same way as L4D2, where game picks a dedicated server and it works as a lobby server instead of lobby host's machine).

And yeah, for some reason the lobby is still not quite stable even after several updates.
Unfortunately like in any other game, there's always some stuff that breaks with every new update.

but from what I understand the server reservation uses servers with preset rules and maps, right? I can't just pick a map and reserve a server for myself and a friend. Plus anyone can still join right?

You should be able to set any lobby game to "Friends Only", I believe.

As for server rules and setups, I'm not sure about that, never hosted lobby myself, I usually join normal online servers or other people's lobbies when I play.

As pointed out by Prosnype in another thread, apparently you can just load the map solo as a host, exit to main menu and start a P2P game on that map without issue

All of the gamemodes are actually really cool, I just wish more people played. Hunted can get stale very quickly when theres only one guy in the entire world online at any moment.

Escape seems the most fleshed-out.
I like the idea of the one where you rescue people but there are issues with the maps in that mode I've found.
