Cheaters and How They Cheat...
Ever played against a ghost that seems to escape your traps too often and too quickly? Perhaps when they mark a target it's with the cadence of the rock and roll song "Wipe Out." Cheaters. Somehow they have a computer program or some other device that rapidly presses the button for them.
I know there are ghosts out there that have an easier chance to escape the "tether" or even the pull of the "ghost trap." Maybe even people that have practiced at escaping such things. However, have you ever tried to mark a target several times in a row? The video game stops you after so many rapid markings. Hence I know what I've witnessed is more than just what the video game allows.
Don't feel bad when you compete against these losers. They cannot win otherwise so like a Democrat, they have to rig it to win it. I wish there was a way to ban these people.

One thing I've noticed is that most cheaters play the ectoplasts ghosts and I'm pretty sure they use a cheat that gives them unlimited energy cause I refuse to believe that they're regenerating so much energy within the span of 5 seconds after hiding in a object.

does the option to complete quicktime events for controllers work in multiplayer?

also, how will they cheat if you have to press different keys for each test?

I've noticed they play that ghost a lot as well. Easier to hide their transgressions. Oddly enough the video game says it gives us new players that ghost first because of it's strength in breaking free and ease of general use.

By no means am I a computer expert. With that said, there are only a few different keyboard keys that need pressing during the time you need to break free of either a "tether" or the traps. Now that we know that there are only a FEW different keys (approximately five I'm guessing from my playing) a computer guy could just write a computer program that presses all those buttons at once - rapidly - during such events. If you have ever been in that position as the ghost, you know you can hit any number of other buttons as long as you are pressing the correct one also, the escape will still progress.

It's the Auro-mash accessibility feature. For some reason they thought it would be a good idea to let manual mashing stack on top of it when enabled.

Hence the ghost players that bust out of traps and tethers like they're made of wet paper.

"What is Auro-mash?" And what reason is it still allowed if it is causing this exploitative advantage?
Manda Nov 5, 2023 @ 11:19pm
*Auto-mash.

Humans are Humans. If something can be exploited, it will be. As for the reason, ask the developers. Only they can answer that.
In the mean time, if you come across one of these players, use the 3 trap rule to your advantage.

So it is a bigger problem than I thought.

I've seen that too and to me it looks like a bug, of which this game has many.

Well, the reason Auto-mash was put in was because, surprise surprise, a lot of this games playerbase leans on the older side, lots of us are late 30's+ many in the fandom are blue collar types who work with their hands a lot, and a lot of players have issues with being forced to mash so much. We have LITERAL Grandma's playing this game [go look up crazygrandma on twitch]

If you guys want to understand a lot of the "Why's" to decisions that were made by Illfonic, the Discord is the place to be, they actually engage with the community there, they listen to feedback so long as things are structured in a constructive, thoughtful way. Pretty much everything the community has asked for [except usable slime blowers and Janine's RGB voice actoress being added, and driveable ecto 1] has been addressed to date. They've worked with the competitive leagues and competitive players to shake out balance issues and egregious game-breaking bugs over the past year.

But yeah, the reason for auto mash, because we've got a lot of older players, simple as.

I'm in my mid 40's. I'm well aware how getting older sucks.

The convo wasn't about why auto-mash exists as a feature. It was about why they allowed manual mashing to stack on top of the auto-mashing feature. Because it's being abused to high hell by the "non-agedly challenged".

For sure an issue that needs addressing, I highly recommend you submit a bug report on the official discord in the #bug-reports channel. Especially if you have video proof of the bug in action.

I'm probably older than the lot of you. But that "Manda" person hits the nail on the head. It isn't the need to accommodate that bothers us, but that they overlooked an exploitation that setting would allow. Keep the setting. Just fix the exploitation related to it.
Funnily enough yesterday I went against one of these guys. Was playing as Samhain and it was just impossible to catch him, constantly breaking the tether. I imagine he was doing that trick because otherwise there's no explanation.

I have no doubt. They recently added a "patch" which didn't address this issues. Perhaps it wasn't a known issue until now. Let's hope the next "patch" will address this issue. Cheating ruins it.
