Rings?

I keep getting what looks like ring unlocks? I don't see rings in my gear section anywhere.
If these aren't rings I can equip in equipment section what are they?

They're artifacts that either buff or debuff certain elements.

If so, how do you equip them? I get those all the time but dont see any menu to use them.

When you choose difficulty, select "Custom". You'll then end up in a menu where you can select artifacts and which "level" each should have.

Oh. So they are something that should be set at the beginning of the adventure... When I get gameover, I get the menu for "standard/normal or something" there I could adjust those?

I am not going to do so then, as it would feel like cheating to change such midgame :/.
