[Solved] Playable with steam controller?
With the release of Steam Link & controller I started looking though my games to see what might be fun for couch gaming; sadly Magica 1 still does not have a Linux port :(

But Magica 2 does it seems, still before I start tossing money at the screen I'd like to know how well the game plays with the a controller - or specifically the steam controller

We should have full Steam controller support, make sure to use the official bindings as a start.

It works very well in Windows, the HD haptics are lovely. M2 has native SC support so it rocks.

Nice job devs. Thanks a bundle.

Right at the beginning of Magicka 2 using the Steam controller with the latest patches, it says to conjure healing with... Steam button? That doesn't work! Using the game-provided Steam controller template. So right at the start it's unplayable!

There are some very well community made controller profiles that very closely resembles the Xbox setup, i recommend trying at least the top 3 to see which variants you prefer. I even attempted to create a control scheme that replaces keyboard/mouse controls. It features mouse aiming, but forces you to also move the cursor and "click" to move. This actually works better than you would expect!

The displayed icons seem to be all wrong

We use the Steam icon to represent various errors like the controller being turned off or that the button is unbound. Currently the Steamworks SDK does not allow us to get keybindings when there is a modifier key such as for the life spell. It should show a "LG + Y" icon but instead nothing gets reported. I don't think there is anything we can do abou this.

In case anyone got here from using one of the new DS4 controllers (current model Sept 2017 Playstation 4) on their PC, I found a solution to the Steam Icon. I'll upload my config to the community configs but if it doesn't show there, the alternate elements are mapped to the "LG" or "Left Grip" button which seems to be what Xbox and Steam Controller call their shoulder buttons. Essentially default mapped to nothing for me. I changed the trigger button for all the face buttons (circle, square, x and triangle) to be the "Left Bumper Button" instead and it worked fine. I also changed the D-pad's alternate mode to the same button and it works well. So my Left Shoulder Button ends up being interact, and alternate to the quick spell slots and the secondary elements.

Hope someone finds this useful!
