Xbox user can't cast most spells?

So we're at the tutorial which prompts us to cast life spell. My bf is using Xbox 360 controller as player 2 and icon for Life element is the steam controller. Wat? ;_; Tried pressing every button on the gamepad and nothing will work.

Edit: He is able to cast the spells from bottom row with ABXY

Think you have to hold a button to cast the other four.

We tried holding and pressing everything, the tooltip and configuration seems to be for Steam Controller and we can't change it.

Hold the left bumper (LB) to use the spells that would be on the top row fort the keyboard

go into steam controller config. in steam settings and tuyrn on support for 360 controllers. then go in and find a template or if u want i can link u mine
