Given you know about those solutions why are you even complaining then.
You've zero grounds to sue them as such. Talking about them being punished by law. Jeez, you sound like a 5 year old.
Do I personally think cab mode is worth $150? No
Do I wish it was free? Of course
Are Arcooda (who developed this in the first place dont forget) well within their rights to charge what they want for it? Damn straight they are
P.s VPX is both better (physics, table selection) and worse than TPA (UI, leaderboards, goals, instructions, easier to setup, legal!).
And you? You are Farsight advocate? Do they pay you for posting here? Why do you defend them when their behavior is clearly reprehensible?
For me cabinet mod in modern pinball sim is simply integrated part of a game. It's like selling customers battlefield premium and then ask for another 150$ for path to reload your weapon or add controller support... exactly that ridiculous this is. And yes, this is pissing me off!
However I'm a dev, I know exactly how hard it is to make games and more importantly how much it costs to develop features. Cabinet support has a miniscule user base. As such the price would need to be high to recoup the costs of development.
Just because you think you should get everything for free (given you brought up VP) doesnt mean it should be. Thats not how the world works.
Also your example is nonsense. A much better (although far from perfect and frankly its irrelivent anyway) comparison might be to say you bought battlefield Premium for $80 on PC and now you need to pay another $80 to play it on your TV via an XboxOne. Something thats perfectly normal.
Look, if you want to be angry you can be. Maybe you honestly feel cheated. Buit the facts are they dont owe us cabinet mode and they certainly dont owe it to us to give it away for free if they dont want to. Its not reprehensible. Its buisness (and their livelyhood)
So a month ago I started obsessing over virtual pinball cabinets (also didn’t know that was a thing because I clearly didn’t know of physical tables being emulated) and started looking into FarSight, Visual Pinball X, Future Pinball.
Wanting a legal way of playing these tables, I decided to buy TPA Season 1 to find out if these rexreations were all they were cracked up to be. Then I tried my best to check out Visual Pinball tables and downloaded a few VPX recreations that are in TPA Season 1.
VPX is clearly geared for virtual pinball cabinets and is free... but then you’re left with the feeling that you’re pirating IP.
But then yesterday I got a glimpse of the Cabinet Mode in TPA and... they nailed it. We’re not just talking about a different camera angle (which most people think it is). There is some distortion effect in the far end of the playing field akin to those street painters that paint something that looks 3D from the right angle. If you look at the screen straight on, it looks weird... but if you look at the screen from a normal cabinet angle, the table looks 3D... moreso than VPX which looks flat in comparison.
The Arcooda TPA cabinet mode might just be the best cabinet experience now. Until VPX does the same kind of 3D optical illusion trickery, they will look flat compared to FarSight tables.
Cabinet mode is nothing more then camera angle view. Something trainne could add during coffe break (apparently other pinball software programers or modders like Noex dont have any problem with it). Work worth 0,0001 cent not 150$.
Bussines - at least good bussines practice - is to sell good quality merchandise not to RIP OFF your custommers. And my posts clearly states that I am willing to pay a lot for games and don't expect anything for free. I just don't accept being cheated, and in this specyfic case I consider Farsight behavior a simple SCAM. (Guess they don't care, because they are going down anyway...)
I think the crux of the problem is that its all so rushed that theres just no way for people to know how much this is truly worth before its removed from sale for ever.
Living in the UK I've no chance of seeing this running on an actual table. Arcooda aren't event releasing their virtual table until July at the earliest, god knows what it'll cost or what shipping would be to here. I'd be very interested to see their kinect head tracking mode in action as well. It sounds amazing but it's impossible to see how it is on a flat 2d youtube video.
I'd love to have a virtual table one day but theres just no way I can justify paying for this and either never being able to use it or being disapointed with it.
Thus demonstrating that you know exactly zero about development. I think its time you took a break from this discussion to go away and read some articles on just how development works and how many stages and how much time is involved to implement even small changes. Then, come back and try to tell me how my job works again to see if you can do better.
"We're really sorry about this. We released our Cabinet version last night and then had to revert to the previous build because it broke our tournament, more specifically our Dr. WHO table. We have a re-release of Cabinet mode scheduled to go back out by the end of the day if our devs can figure out why Dr. WHO is force closing the application.
Thank you for your patience with us."
Thanks for this buddy... It is nice to finally get some feedback about what is going on!!
Cabinet mode is released today. 1.70.17. It requires a key purchasable from Arcooda.
